How long was the car outside? I've heard a noise on mine too when I turn it on after a couple of days without driving it.

I warm up my car long enough so I don't hear it anymore. I only heard it when it was below zero degrees.

could be the heater core filling up with warm/hot coolant. that's how the heater works, it takes the heat from the coolant and disperses the heat into the passenger compartment.

mine did the same thing when it came back from toyota, it took them 2 trys to fix...there were air bubbles in the coolant hoses, since there are no vent to drain them, like on domestic cars, you have to jack the front end up pretty high and turn the defrost or heat on high.. this is because the heater core is higher then the radiator. this lets the air escape out the front. sounds dumb, but it took them 2 trys to figure it out. Make sure to add coolant when ur done though.
