Hi guys, finally it's done. It was a shitload of work and I wouldn't want to do it again (I think ). Please wait with replies until my last picture is done! Intro: I really wanted to have a screen in my car, for looks but also for actually playing or watching movies. I figured the jdm-console has a strange gap in front of the screen which fits the 'official' screen, but would probably no fit other screen which means you would have to do work to that as well. Also a 5.6 inch screen is too small I think. The only solution was to make one myself. I bought a used upper part center console and a 7 inch lcd/tft screen. Here you'll find the steps I took to create the jdm-style console. Here's the screen I bought, I wanted pal/ntsc compatibility for games and movies as well as future use of rear-view cameras.

Step 2
Glueing the screen to the console upper part that I took a piece out of with my dremel

Step 4: The most horrible step. Bondo and sanding till you drop. I really hate this, it's too small to do a good sanding job. Also the bondo I used was very sticky so it was hard to get a smooth surface

Step 5: I almost got it smooth here. I used 'filler' to get the small gaps straight. Didn't work so I had to use bondo again to fill them. Then again sanding etc etc.. Here you see it sprayed with filler and some bondo

Step 7: Painting it. I found a motip can of spray paint in the same color as the center console. Only thing is, it's glossy. Now I have to paint the rest of the console too. Not too bad though. I wet-sanded it with 600 grit sanding paper until it was very smooth. Let it dry, degreased it and painted it with about 7 to 8 layers of paint.
Here you see the result with the screen put in running NFS:Underground on gamecube.

Okay, last picture. The last two pictures are bigger so you can see some more detail. It's not perfect. Not everything is as smooth as it can be, but hey, I'm not a pro at this. I think I did a very good job. Someone once told me: 'the enemy of good is better'. I wanted to stop until things would go wrong. I think everyone can do this, it's just a lot of work ans it takes a lot of patience. Anyone with questions, mail me, I will however NOT make another one

Yep, especially the corners on the inside, you can't use a sanding-block for that. Dremel will take too much of too fast. Those are a pain in the ass indeed

That looks great man...Im doing mine right now.
I did almost the exact same thing...although my screen is tiled back a little more and i moved the single din up to fill the space out. On mine..i "rounded" out the space..around the screen so i didnt have that many hard corners.
Ill post pics soon.

Yikes! That's real sweet! Just out of curiosity, where do you have the sound going to? I really wanted to do some LCD screens, but didn't learn yet about how to hook up sound.
Knowing the path and choosing the path are two different things.
