Not enough wrong with it to buy a whole new engine. Could be the plugs, the intake, the gas you use...

dude a new engine is way expensive. you got to buy it ship it. plus all the labor if your having a shop do the work. so if i were you i would check my belts, all of my liquids, and as others have said it could be the gas. if that doesn't work you might want to see a tech and have them check her up for ya. i just want to kno if you bought the car lie this or if you just started hearing it one day?

Check your valve clearances/ you may have to replace the shems and cam chain. Buying engine shoudnt even be an option this early in diagnosis.

Yea, they're quite expense. I recommend checking all possibilities before purchasing a new engine. I'm not too sure what it could be confused

Keep in mind, you may just be hearing the valves, on the 2zz, there's a lot of valve niose. So long as it's like a "tick-tick-tick" and not a "KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK", you should be fine, if it's serious knocking accompanied with power loss, something is messed up.

Also, the 2zz will occasionally knock under hard acceleration when lift kicks in, this is normal under load, since the internal ajustments in the valves/cam changeover will occasionally cause a light knock, but if it persists, and is accompanied by power loss, you should tow it to a shop right away, Once my engine started knocking bad, it turned out it spun a rod bearing, so long as you take it in, the motor should be salvageable, if the knock becomes a metalic clanking, like in my case, it's too late.

If you are that concerned, take it to the shop, and get it checked out.
