just out of curiousity...

what are your guy's and girl's methods for taking care of your paint??

how often do you wax, buff etc

and what products do you use??

and most importantly of all ... can you wax too often?

you seem to have underestimated my sneakiness, sir.

I try to wash car every week. If not I do it every other week. I purchased a Meguiar's car care kit, so far...works great to me.

Wash as much as you want but there is a such thing as to much wax once a month or every other is good enough.

do you guys and girls go to a detailer to get your cars waxed or do you take matters into your own hands and get it done yourself

I'm a detailer at Saturn, so i wash my car everyday, and wax it every week(since its been a pretty shitty winter in PA, a lot of snow, so that means salt galore to eat away the wax, once spring hits i'll tone it down to once a month) , and polish it every other day grin I get pretty bored at work as you can tell. But the best products I use are manufactured by 3M. But I use Macguires for my leather upholstery. as far as buffing goes, try not to have your car buffed often. I'd say only as the need arises, like a scratch, or something like that, b/c the more you buff the more clear coat you take off your paint. and no clear coat means no glossy shine, and no protection against all the environmental goodies nature has to offer us. as well as stones on the highway at 95 mph. hope that advice helps! thumbsup

Buffing with an electric spinning buffer? Or buffing with a soft cloth and your hand?

buffing with an electric wheel. i polish by hand. here's what i've learned about buffing with a wheel from experienced detailers. when you buff a car with an electric wheel you're basically heating up the clear coat on top of the paint. so when you buff a scratch you're not removing the scratch, you are simply filling it in with clear coat. so the more you buff the more clear coat protectant you remove. buffing by hand takes significanty longer to remove clear coat. so i'd say that is safe, but using a wheel usually spins a sponge pad at 3500 rpm's, very easy to burn a cars clear coat, so be careful all you home detailers

could i have purchased another clearcoat from the factory to be put on?

like to protect it even further?

i wonder if it would have been worth it (protecting more from chips etc)

i guess you could, it would be expensive, and it still wouldn't protect it from fast objects like stones. but it would be protective against the environment
