Can anyone tell me if it is normal to have a little bit of a gap in the front of the stock air box with the new TRD filter? I can see the red rubber housing on the front edge.

Can someone take an over head shot of the air box? This is the cloesest I could find, but I cannot tell...

If I understand your question right, you prolly did not place that filter in the right position. I have the K&N drop in. It was a bit tricky to get right. But after some effort it slide in perfectly.

I made sure it was in place correctly. It sits in pretty well, just trying to get the cover on evenly isn't working out toward the right front side.

It just didn't look right to me. I think the red rubber housing is thicker than stock.

I ended up reinstalling it. It looks better, but the fit still isn't as good as the original DENSO filter.

Yes. That gap is normal. As long all of the air-box clips and be securely fastened, you will be fine.
