Hey guys I bought a AEM CAI for a celica gts. I just want to know what are the chances of me hydrolocking??
I didn't get the by-pass valve.

Thanks

Do not worry...Many people do not have it and they are fine.
But you will be fucked if your car gets in to the 1 ft deep pothole full of water... wave

Is it ok if I cover the filter with some kind of plastic bag or anything just as long as water doesn't splash on it?

No...If you cover it, intake will not suck the air in to the engine...
Dude you'll be fine...But if you can't sleep coz of that..Just get the by-pass valve.

as long as your intake is not completely submerged you'll be fine.

u guys all see that vid and think its all ok well its not i have personally been a victim of hydrolockin i have all my papers sayin what casue my engine to blow and also all my papers sayin that theres a new engine dropped in my celica. but there is a few things that you can do to cut the chances down and the bypass valve only works on gen 2 aems... one is to make sure ur inner fender lining is completely intacked secondly if you have stock fogs your pretty well protected as for if you don't the i found so me material that is like screenin that i put where my fogs went(my fogs got broken in my accident so i had to take off) and it allows air to pass thru but is very difficult for water to get to ur airfilter and just looks like mesh! but you have to do it on both sides so it doesn't look ghetto. or just get the injen splash guard it fits with no prob. but the key is to not be in high revs while its pourin out. cause one thing that the video didn't do is sit there with open throttle while sprayin the filter plus 10-20mins is a lot different than 3hrs

I say go with what Celica2kgts said. It'll be your best bet.

Knowing the path and choosing the path are two different things.

So, is it a good idea to get a injen heatshield/splashguard?
and will this prevent hydrolocking?
