Test drive tomorrow

Well I'm back to working a few more hours, have the money from my second car that was sold...

Time to make a stop down at the car dealers and re-evaluate the whole situation I suppose. I'm going to test drive a Mazda 3 (five door), Mazda 6s, VW Passat, and finally a S2K to get some idea what I want to do. All of them would be stick. If I decide that having a stick and a little more room is worth it, I may end up with one of the first three mentioned. If I like the sportscar S2K, I'll just keep saving for another six months or year (obviously that car is a totally diff. price range).

Any input on any of these? I'm pretty sure that all of them would be faster than my auto GTS. I just figure there is no point in having a $25k 'performance' oriented car when it's auto anymore. I'd likely mod the 3 if I got it, otherwise I'd leave the 6 or VW stock (But loaded)... Or should I just stick it out while my car depreciates and hope one day I can afford a new S2k?

why not just enjoy your saved money?

Getting into a new car loan isn't always a good idea.

If you really want to change cars, stay away from Mazda. Ford owns them, and they are sharing Ford bin parts...

So, you are paying "import" price at "domestic" build quality. thumbsdown

Or a better idea, you could hold onto your cash for a little longer, and find yourself a 2jz supra or wait until the next gen supra is released.

i wouldn't say that about the mazda 3 five doors, or mazada 6. then again, you do have an auto GTS. have fun driving a manual at the dealers, make sure you don't trip tires, stall, or mis-shift...

if you're looking at a VW, get the jetta 1.8t. good price, room, fully loaded, power, and you can chip it later on. or if you feel lucky, get the R32. golf doesn't have the 180 crank hp turbo...only GTI...

Save your money and buy a 5th gen Alltrac nothing like a 3sgte sleeper to keep the rice boys in line.

Or you can get a 240 and do a SR20 swap but then again it looks like you want a 4 door so these cars may be out of the question.

How old are you now?

You should look into something a little more practical the mazda 3 would be a good deal, 4 doors, mod able engine/body and practical features.

Whats with the trend in Asia lately with these wagon upgrades and such?

i bet its gonna flow over to the states, through the Scion's Xa and Xb (we are gettin an Xb (arrives in june, or sooner))

Update:

Only had a chance to visit one dealership today. Took out both the 3 and 6 for tests. I was proud to have only made a shifting error once after 9 months of auto. spineyes

Overall I liked both very much. The 3 handled (and yes I'm serious) probably as well as the Celi or my dad's IS300 does. Very responsive, light steering. Sooo much more punch than my Celi too... the powerband seems better, and the five-speed really did make a difference.

The 6 wasn't quite as crisp, but still was quite manageable. Not 'faster' per se then the 3, but more torque down low. Both cars had thumbsup interriors.

Going to go stop at Honda tomorrow and try the S2k. I'm still 50/50 split on keeping my car after today...

My cousin just bought a S2000. Loves it, says its a pretty rev nutty car like the manual GTS, but more low end torwue (just a little) and a ton of HP. He loves it, says you will too. Real performance car with a twin personality.

you are an idiot, the S2000 is one of the best sports cars japan has to offer without a turbo, and the best honda has ever offered including the NSX because they cost entirely too much and can't even compete with a Z06.

the wrx and evo may have more HP but if you find another naturally aspirated car besides the Z and Skyline(which are both 6 Cyl by the way) that can beat the S2000.

go look at car&driver, they did test on roadsters and tuner cars, and guess who won both, oh THE S2000

if you have ever driven one you will fall in love, unless you are allergic to high reving engines and plan on this being your only vehicle in which you will have to travel in and carry a bunch of luggage. otherwise the S2K is what you should go for. thumbsup

it can be a perfect daily driver or the midnight beast with less then 10 grand invested.
i would get the Muegen body kit, Carbon Fiber hard top, take out the soft top and strap on a turbo, but thats just me

Eh, I know the S2k isn't everyone's cup of tea; no reason to argue over it. The main thing is that it's not as agressive in apperance as most other "true" sports cars (ie 350z, Z4, Boxster, ect). Most the people who like the exterrior design of the S2k are people who liked the Miata design (like myself).

There is no discussion, however, over how AWESOME the engine is. I'm still not sure if I like the old engine or new engine better though... more torque is thumbsup but lower redline is thumbsdown

thats fine if you don't like it, it's just that the way you said it sounded like it was a bad car, there are plenty of peopl that don't like the styling, i'm just not one of them

and i think the styling is very aggressive much more than the miata which i like also, and now that i think of it i like all cars or anything with an engine for that matter, i just happen to like some(S2K, Z, Celi, Vette, Lambo, Mclaren, etc...) more than others(my toyota corolla)

not trying to down you or any thing i was just saying they are great cars, and i was also putting in my input for what he should get(in case you don't know, get the S2K, and believe it or not the S2K has more aftermarketproducts being intoduced than any car released after 2000 as of right now.

and lastly you should get the new one, it's much faster and has a beefier sound to it

Damn, some of you just don't get it. Some people just don't have the money to be out there buying a S2000. Plus at that price you could get a Z4, I've tested an S2000 and there is no way I would buy one. The Z4 is a much smoother ride and they are way classier. But that's all besides the point. Obviously we're looking at a lower price range that doesn't include these cars. I drove the Mazda 3 Sport and this car fucking owns. Has huge acceleration, 0-60 in 7.2. And the interior is amazing. Anyone who says Mazdas suck don't know what they're talking about. I realize what site I'm on and I still love my celi, but realize what other people are asking before you go spouting off about shit you know nothing about. The 3is fast, but it's also extremely practical, lots of space, high gas mileage, good handling. Go with the Mazda 3, you won't regret it.

oh well...i had my opinion on that~

...if you are to choose the S2K, get the new engine one, more torgue, and lower rpm (i actually think that is a good thing for that 4 bannger...)

anways...ive made my point, and my point are always my thoughts, i will never force others to think my way, so if i sounded like i was saying it is a bad car, then i do mean it is a bad car FOR ME. clear 'nough?

if you can get a Z4 for 32 grand, you need to jump on that, but around here you can't get a new one for much less than 42. and i am talking from a performance stand point, in which the S2K is better than the Z4 if you don't believe me go ask car & driver, you may not be talking from performance, but rather style or class or whatever.

i think you should get what YOU want, not what everyone else wants.

i was just trying to tell you what i would do, which to tell you the truth, dosn't really matter. so good luck with your car hunting

What's wrong with the Mazda 3? Yeh, the parts are prolly crap, but I love the styling...especially for how cheap the car itself is. I wouldn't mind picking up one of those.

RX-8 ALL THE WAY!!!

ur last 10 posts have the rx-8 pictures. ur in love with it i guess. as for mazda 3, i really like the way the 4 dr looks. awesome interior and exterior. better looking than the 6.
oh yea wait for the new celica if it looks nice. 247hp aint bad at all for a 25K$ car. save ur money

werd, seeing that rx-8 picture under "striker" everywhere gets annoying after awhile.

i like the mazda 3 btw. and yes they are connected with ford but who cares. newer ford stuff has actually been quite good. step into an '03 cobra that has close to 400rwhp after only an Air Filter and you'll change your mind about fords. (i did grin) im not comparing the mazda 3 to the cobra but just trying to bring up a point that just cause domestics are traditionally thought of as "pos" by the import community, that doesnt mean all of them are.

to everyone: keep an open mind! thumbsup
