I wonder why the new MR2 spyder isnt getting as much attention as the celica or supra. I never hear anyone talking about the MR2. Must be because its weak, it looks good but 138hp isnt good enough. they should put a turbo as an option. then I'll probally hear more bout it. Comman Toyota you dont want Honda to beat you!!

I believe the MR2's speed is somewhat in between the Celica GT and GTS...Not a lot of people I know like the MR2, a lot of people associate it as a 'girls car' much like the Miata. I think its pretty cool...kinda reminds ya of a porshe at some angles.

According to most of the major mags it runs low-mid 15s Not to put too much stock in their results, but that should give some idea. I'd take one ... except the trunk is the size of a briefcase

Have you ever tried sitting in one with the top UP?
A convertible isn't as popular in states that have rain or snow for more than 4 months out of the year - look around at the other cars in your state, how many of them are convertibles?
The MR2 is a great car, but the MRS has a very select market - and not much of that market is anyone over 6 foot who requires the car as a daily driver outside of the Southern California and surrounding areas...
Retail Price (MSRP) $24,645 for a 1.8L 138hp I4 2195lbs vehicle with a max seating of 2... you're going to be hitting an EXTREMELY select market
What about engine power upgrades? is there a VVT-i forced induction system available to shoot this puppy past 200hp?

MR2s are designed for turns not drag racing although many have been successful at building fast drag mr2s.

Many people judge a car by what it can do on the 1/4 mile which isn't really fair.
The MR2's are amazing cars and have an unbelievable amount of aftermarket support. I am considering purchasing a MKII MR2 Turbo for my dedicated autox car later.

The MR2 is a much less forgiving car in the turns than the celica. Celica's are verry forgiving where in most cases you'll just get a bad case of understeer with improper cornering where as having your back end come out sideways because you went too hot into a turn in a MR2.

mr2 is like the g rated version of lotus elise. heres why mr2 didnt succeed IMO 1. two seater only, so its for only for a minor group of ppl 2. almost no promotions for it at all 3. not enough power as stock for racers. 4. bad interior especially the shiftknob area. 5. overpriced for being what it is mr2 should be a frickin 350z s2000 killer and all the other cars in the category. it looks like a cheap boxster from outside, and inside is a diss.
speaking of weight, anyone knows how much does a gts weight without a sunroof? 100lbs less?

Highly unlikely, A Sunroof-less GTS would probably weigh just 10s of pounds less than a sunroofed GTS. speaking of weight, anyone knows how much does a gts weight without a sunroof? 100lbs less?

Lots of guys are swapping 2ZZ's into the MR-2 spyder, that makes for one hell of a fast car.
BTW the sunroof doesn't make much of a weight difference on the celica, unless you have the glass sunroof. they come with a polycarbonate sunroof to keep the weight down, and my sunroof hasn't peeled or anything yet.
If it does peel down the road, I intend to replace it with a Carbon Fiber sunroof panel instead. lots of companies make these to fit a given application.
