My friend just recently got his 2000 GTS rear ended by a Ford Explorer. It is completely totaled. He is offering to sell me the VVTL-I motor. I have a 2001 GT. Would this swap work with the 5 speed tranny? I'm purdy sure it would drop right in but i wanna be sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. smile

as for physical fitment it'd work... but thats not the beginning, i'm nowhere near capable to completly explain this but for starters you'd have to change the ecu cause your fuel/air demands are now different, the GTS vvtli has a different powerband and as of such the reason for the 6-spd tranny is to make up for low/mid range torque so using the 5spd tranny (if it works), you'll suffer on the low end... there's probably MANY more complications, ut like i said, i'm not all that clear on this topic... it's definitely do-able, just might cost a lot more and be more work than your bargaining for...

I can tell you what you would want to get off that car, the whole rear disc break assembly smile
Because thats what I want if I have access to a wrecked GTS.
If he got into a wreck where someone hits him or he hits someone DO NOT GET THE ENGINE PARTS OFF THE CAR IT IS VERY UNRELIABLE!!! It may look ok from the outside but you can not see any hidden cracks or whatever.
If he rolled the car where there is nothing but exterior damage then you can take his engine... but then those damage is never considered totaled just need a lot of body work.

now i'm not sure about this, but i do believe that in europe, the GT 6speed tranny is the same as the gts's one. dn't quote me on it, but you might wanna check it out =)
