short shifters do exactly what they are called. youll be able to change gears a lot quicker becuase the shifter is shorter. so the shorter the shift the faster you can get it into gear which improves a your shifting a little. as far as brands go im not to sure on that for the 7th gens.

Is it hard to shift with at first? I have this weird feeling that I'd miss my gear when shifting until I got the feel for it.

Then wait to get one, get your shifting down pack before you get a SS, a miss shift could be bad news.

yep..TWM will have a higher percentage of misshifting since it is shorter also...B&M is the next step up...then TRD...

B&M is good imo. grin

it'll feel shorter from each gear to gear..the general throw of the shift...maybe a tad rougher depending on which one you get.

This question seems to come up a lot and I don't have a short shifter so I can not comment on which is best, but I always have the same questions that maybe somebody could answer. What are the disadvantages about a SS other than mis-shifting? Would it put more strain on a transmission?
