if your dealer isn't a pain in the ass, the CAI won't "blow" and engine, but you are better off replacing the stock airbox just in case.

This seems like quite a common problem still, I can see why Toyota doesn't advertise the Celica, new engines under warranty aren't cheap! thumbsdown

I would definitely put the stock airbox back on if possible. Don't give Toyota any excuse to blame you.

just put it together as best you can.
you don't need to put back all the screws.
just as long as they don't see the Intake.
and good luck!

i would try to put the stock one back on...

now a year or two ago i blew up my bf RSX by mis shifting
(80mph down shifted to 2nd instead of 4th)
i told them the truth and they fixed it under "goodwill"
they said that they really appreciated me telling them the truth. but acura has a better service department then toyota. hmm also i was crying saying"i just feel so bad because this is my bfs new car and i broke it" lol grin

One of my friends, (the only other modded celi in my town) mis-shifted on the interstate at 90 MPH (meant to hit 4th, hit 2nd instead) and bent all but one of his valves, and spun bearings on 1 and 3. He took it to the dealer, and they fixed it for him under warranty, claiming a "faulty shift cable"

CAI shouldnt be blamed for the engine blown since it functions better than the actual airbox, but if ur dealer is one of the fucked up ones just put it. put everything back like it was. as of the reason blown, just tell them you mis-shifted im not sure about toyotas service. but a friend of mine has an rsx and acura doesnt give no hard deals with him for no reason. they should replace it under warranty for sure though. good luck and let us know

Let me get this right, you come here looking for advice on how to steal an engine from Toyota and in turn the future buyers of Toyota cars through higher prices. angry Thats nice. Hows this: steal a credit card, rob a bank or hold someone up to get the dough to pay for the repair. Hey, you could do this: just ask someone to give you a hand stealing someones new Celica so youll have a ready supply of parts for when you fuk up and smoke your transmission, blow the speakers, wear the brakes out, bend a wheel, need tires, crash your car, etc? wtf Try taking responsibility for your actions and use your cash to pay for your screw-up. Youll get that warm and fuzzy feeling knowing you didnt rape someone for a freaking engine. thumbsup thumbsup

how could you mis-shift?

downshift one gear would cause your engine to blow?

i think somebody said that as long as you are not at the redline in the current gear, shifting one gear down wouldnt have any problems...right?

please correct me!!!

He never said that he misshifted/downshifted from one Gear. If hes in 6th going about 80 or so, wanted to downshift into 4th and actually hit 2nd then pretty much BAM, there goes the engine. Downshifting one gear is a lot different from mishifting.

actually, guys, before you flame the piss out of him...

some celicas actually have a fault shift selector/spring that when it finally breaks, the car seems to go into 4th gear, but the transmission selects 2nd and it blows.

This is not driver error, it is a problem with the tranny. Thus, toyota needs to cover it.

Fuck it, I say if he's still under warranty then more power to him. Toyota has a bunch of ways that they fuck us in the ass all of the time. They have to pay sometimes.

Hey Toyota, how about issuing recalls rather than just putting out fucking TSB's? grin

laughsilly Putting on the water works always helps...

Anyway, I would replace the CAI and put the stock airbox back in. Like everyone else has already said "don't give toyota a reason to blame you."

wut r you all worried about whose ripping who off?
if you really concerned about that, wut is ur insurance and dealer doing to you being nice? people with warranty are getting difficulties with stuffs that they shouldnt have. dealers are ripping off ppl very hard, so they deserve to be ripped off by any ways possible, especially the bad ones

you really havnt 'stole' anything from toyota if the CAI didnt cause the engine to blow (which it probably didn't). since it probably didnt, then he deserves to get a new engine free of charge.

This thread really is a microcosm of the how ethically bankrupt we Americans have become. It astounds me how much chatter there is in these forums on how to commit fraud. Whats next, a thread on how to get free stuff from Isaacs E-Celica store by reversing the PayPal charge, counterfeiting money orders, etc. How on earth is someone entitled to have someone shoulder the cost of his mistakes? The guy mis-shifted his transmission causing his engine to over-rev resulting in bent valves. Had he mis-braked and smashed into the car in front of him, would you be suggesting ways for him to have someone that had nothing to do with the wreck pay? All the rationalization in the world is not going to make a wrong right. thumbsup

isn't a missshift that blows the engine covered under warranty? the question wasn't whether or not how to commit fraud as far as i'm concerned. it's more of a question of getting less hassle from the dealership because he had an aftermarket part.

can a CAI blow an engine? not likely (if at all possible). i'd just be concerned about getting less hassle so you can hurry up and get your car fixed. if a blown engine from a misshift is covered under warranty, then it's not 'fraud' because thats exactly what happened (if that was the case..the original post was kinda hazy on the details). imo, the CAI didnt help the engine blow.
