What gains have people seen with replaceing the stock filter with an upgraded one, such as K&N's, Waiting on intake, but the car seems to be slacking, thinking it the air flow/managment. the car is a 2000 gt celica, what else could it be? or when do you change your filter if your running stock air box?

I replaced mine with a K&N. I didn't notice too much difference, and I doubt that there is much difference. Probably 2-3hp increase.

You do get a little bit more air flow, and you don't ever have to replace it.. those are two characteristics that make it better than the stock throw-aways.

It's not that expensive of a part, I think it's worth it. Otherwise you'll just be throwing away the dirty ones every so often.

I noticed build up on the MAF.

The filter came to me over oiled, and it caused a CEL.

Oddly, my car runs smoother and louder with a stock airfilter.. spineyes

I have the TRD air filter (made by K&N), I did notice a differece but as far as HP goes 1 or 2 maybe. I got it because you can clean it, which will save money in the long run. Plus I got it for $40.00 (shipped) brand new off of Ebay.

When I had my stock air filter I would replace it every 3rd oil change. You may need an induction cleaning, how many miles are on your car?

I have a K&N filter in and while installing I took out the butterfly valve thingy, from the two I noticed less of a bogging feeling at takeoff and better throttle response.

I put in a K&N and cheated the butterfly valve open all the time (didn't remove the whole assembly because the front of the filter didn't seem to seal all the way without it) and it made a noticable difference. It doesn't blow you away, but it's worth the money if you aren't going to buy an intake.
