I have an 02 Carbon Blue, the hood must have 20+ minor chips in the paint. None anywhere else, only 15K miles.
Anyone else had a similar problem?

Thanks,
Milton

Mine has chips also. A friend of mine was telling me about his friend's new red Celica and how the hood has a ton of chips in it, more than mine, and he barely drives it.

I got a new hood & paint job four months ago and have some now. It's from small pieces of debris striking your car especially rocks, and especially on the highway. Keep away from cars with exceptionally big tires and semis, cause they like to kick up rocks really high. No way you can prevent them unless you put a bra on your car. rolleyes I don't even know if they make them for the Celica cause I've yet to see them, but they won't protect the whole hood and they are FUGLY.

Everyone gets them, but you can't really see them unless you look for them. Buy some touch up paint from a Toyota dealership. Here's a ***LINK*** to how you can fix them yourself if they bother you. thumbsup

He probably takes it to the highway a lot more, or he travels on a highway frequented by construction or trucking routes.

That can be quite costly, and it will just happen again days or months later. Just deal with it. It's like finding you have a chip in your windshield, except for a paint chip you can paint it. Either ignore it or fix it, it's regular wear and tear. It's like saying that I think my tires are losing some tread, and I've only had them for a year. spineyes

Yeah, I have some too. Heck... I got some in my first 2k miles.

I think it has very much to do with how our hoods are sloped so much in comparison to other cars. Instead of rocks either hitting the front bumper or grill like they would on a Civic, they travel with the wind current right up the hood of the car.

I must have millions on my hood. All from 75k miles of travel. Kinda pisses me off. You don't really see paint chips on other cars. Most people say that it's the most they've ever seen on one car. eek

yup..i notice that also. even if the paint is not chipped..for some reason everything under the sun likes to stick to that and even when i wash my car i can't get everything off. i actually used tilex on my front bumper once to get some of the stuff off...it worked good and it didnt harm the paint job. but i'm afraid of eating throught the clear coat, so thats why i only did it once. got almost all the gunk off, though that i couldnt get off with a wash rag & car soap.

I use the pressure washer at a local place on the front end. It's only made of plastic, and if it gets damaged, all the more reason to buy a kam front tasty

oh well, it's the only front end I like, because the lines flow with the rest of the car VERY well.

ditto...outside of the apr gt300 kit..the kaminari is my next favorite (and obviously the more realistic...even though that seems unrealistic at this time)

i have a clear cover strip on the front third of my hood... keeps it pretty safe, although i do have a small chip on the front lip of my hoodscoop, and also a pretty nasty one on the leading edge of the hood itself... its an eventuality... just have touch up paint ready...

Thanks guys, I see it is very common. Unlike what one person said, "normal wear and tear like tire tread", these cars are far more prone to chipping than most.
I already bought touch up paint, haven't done it yet.
It sure makes me want to blast the dealer or Toyota themselves. I pointed it out to the service dept. with less than a thousand miles.
Thanks again

make sure you use the hot pressure water few feets away from ur car. dont have it close. for example if you see a birdshit on the hood, dont take it off with the pressure washer by closing it up. it will damage/take off the paint, especially if the paint is new.
