I know that some of you are real speed freaks, and will do almost anything to get more speed esp. at the track on 1/4 times, but has anyone ever tried to race without their accessory belt on? Heard it gives you like 5hp except no accessories like AC or power steering, which means you could only race on drags, but has anyone ever tried it, or are there hidden risks to it?

i did do it a couple of times on other cars but never tried it with the 7th gen celica.should pick up a few hp.and allow the car to rev quicker.i never tried it because the celica uses one belt for everything, and even though you can drive without ac,power steering.the waterpump would not be turning and the altinator will not be turning.with the aluminum block i wouldnt risk going down without the cooling and with the coil packs you need the juice from the alt at hi rev.a one short belt for the alt. can be rigged i'm sure but the water pump is a little more tricky cause it runs off the back side of the belt.

you would have to replace the serpentine belt with a shorter belt that just spun essential components.

It's just not worth it. Unless you have money to spend like a pro team. Maybe you should just reduce the weight of your Celica. It will have better the performance and you can bolt everything back in like the back seats, trunk assembly, jack, spare tire, run a minute of gas, lighter battery, lighter tires and wheels (if in the budget). I don't mess with a $6,000 dollar engine unless I can cover it longer than a couple of races or I'm rich, or I have sponsors.

Ok, thanks. Just wondering if it can be done, but I agree with you and would never go to the extreme, especially if it has something to do with the engine.
