Hey everyone...
I need a quick answer to a question so I can order my new speakers tonight. I remember that when I purchased my amp and HE2 subs before install, the guy at the audio shop told me I had purchased the wrong impedance. I had to go back to Best Buy and exchange them before the install. Problem is now that I don't recall if it was 2 or 4 Ohms that was correct...
How do you determine which is correct for my application? The speakers I am ordering tonight are replacements for my rears 6 1/2's, running off my stock JBL unit.
Also, does anyone know if a place like Al & Ed's or Best Buy would install speakers not purchased at the store? I'm sure they might charge more, but I found that SoundDomain sells the speakers I want for 1/2 what either of those places are charging.
Thanks for the replies in advance.

Man, I wish I could tell ya for sure, I know it was brought to my attention by the people that did my HU that they were different than most. I would guess 2, I believe that's what the Best Buy people told me was causing my first HU to not work correctly...but like I said, I'm not even close to being sure. Sorry.

ok ur question is confusing? are you askin for impedance on ur subs or ur 6.5? Most sub amps and applications you will be ok with 2 4 ohm subs... And most 6-1/2 speakers you can't buy different...they all come the same that they sell at best buy

subs usually come 4 or 8 ohm, unless they are dvc then they are dual 4 usually, if you run the subs each parallel then they will be 2 ohms each. If you series the coils, they will be 8ohm. From there you can run the 2 parallel subs in series for an 4 ohm load, or run them parallel again for a 2 ohm load. If you take the subs with the coils ran in series, then run them parallel, you get 4 ohm, if you run series subs in a series circuit, you get 8 ohm. Keep in mind parallel means divide, and series means multiply. Most amps can handle a 2ohm load if they have cooling space. I had 3 8ohm subs ran parallel for a 2.67 ohm load. If i used 4 ohm subs it would be 1.34ohm, which was too low for my amp. Keep in mind that a lower impedence is harder on your equiptment. Cd decks can usually only handle to a 4 ohm load. Thats why the stock components in a gts should be ran in series. Other wise the deck will cook

anyhow keep away from he2's if you can, they sound good, but blow very easy. The he's are much tougher and need less power to pound.

Okay this whole thing was written in the middle of a brain-shutdown last night. I realize now that the problem with the speakers I had came when we decided to bridge my amp... something I obviously won't be doing with my component speakers...
The other part of my question does still stand though; will stereo shops typically install parts not purchased from them. If not, would they install new speakers purchased elsewhere at a cost if you were to buy just the head unit from the shop? I know every place is different, I'm just looking for experiences you may have had with this.

I used to work at a audio shop...and yes we installed anything...sometimes if it was strange shit we chanrged a couple bucks xtra but normally just normal prices

Subs connected in series go like this. negative of one to positive of the other, then the remaining negative and positive wires are connected to your amp. This adds the voltage of the two 4 ohm subs to give you 8 ohms. If that helps, but I'm still unsure what it is you are asking.
