Does anyone know a good abrasive to clean the gts valve cover, mine has black stuff on it that won't come off with comet or any degreaser (tried a few different). cant really see that well in picture but its real obvious in person.

i used a clay that i brought from Taiwan to clean every kind of shsit in the engine bay...
the clay melts with water and become luiquid like, then i only need paper towel to clean the engine~

it even takes off the decoloration of a pot that's bening burnt... amazing~

If simple green won't do the job, try something that's more heavy duty (such as Engine brite, or an engine cleaning product called Steam, which kicks ass BTW)

if you are really having trouble try this:

Easy Off oven cleaner spray. spray it on the valve cover, try to keep it off the plastics, as they will get marks on them if it dries on the plastic and rubber bits.

run the motor, let it get to normal operating temperature. when it's there, let it idle for a minut or two. shut off the car, let the motor cool a little bit (about a minute or so will do) and hose it off. be sure to cover any intakes, eletrical bits, ignition wires, etc, with plastic wrap too. this goes for all engine cleaning products.

Last ditch solution, if all else fails, buy some aluminum polish (you know, for rims and such, at an auto parts store) and polish the valve cover with it. that'll get it off for sure with some elbow grease.

you know wat would work: some good ole gasoline. that stuff gets anything off. but dont rub too much, only till it comes off, cause gas is pretty strong and all.

Dude I had the same problem. You should go to walmart or something and get a hand held steam cleaner. It basically shoots steam and can clean anything. I used that to get the nasty parts off of my valve cover. Good luck

i had the same problem, plus mine was really dirty bc i kept spilling oil on the cover. what i did was bought the engine cleaner from autozone, spray it on a cloth towel that that its damp but not soaked (note: only the size of a nickel or so, because if you put too much on, when you apply it to the cover it will soak all over the cover, and the products are very flamable). basically, what you will do is a "wax on wax off" movement. when you start wiping with the towel that has the engine cleaner on it it will start to instantly break up and then on your other hand with a dry cloth you wipe it off immediately. THEN AT THE END, VERY IMPORTANT, that you use a new cloth soaked with water, another one that is just damped on the other hand, and another dry clean cloth on the side. what you do is clean off all the parts that you used the engine cleaner on with the soaked one, then again with the damped one, and then dry off completely with the dry cloth. make sure you clean off with water because as i said earlier, IT IS FLAMABLE. this way sure beats spraying the whole engine with engine cleaner and then spraying it all down with water, because if you don't do it carefully you can ruined alternator and etc. with the water or you can have excess and BOOOOMMMMM!!!! CAR IS BURNED. hope this helps. latez

Its Rod Millen Motorsports.

Thanks all, I'm gonna try the brake cleaner first since I already have some, if that don't work looks like I got plenty of other choices. thumbsup
