Hey guys, I came across this guy online and he is most likely going to sell me his used TRD exhaust, and I only have one pic of it. Well anyways, he says that he has only had it for about 4-5 months, and to me, it looks like maybe a little longer due to the discoloration of it in the pics. I know that I can easily go about cleaning it, but I just want to see if it is as old as he says it is, and I was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate by looking at the pic alone. Also, what do you guys recommend as a good product to really get the exhaust to shine again? I'm sure there's a lot out there, but obviously there is one that works really well, and just wondering if anyone can recommend a product to me, and and special tips to clean it. Thanks in advance. EDIT: I requested a few more pics at a closer range, and I'll post them as soon as I receive them.

i wouldn't pay over $100 for it. where the hell does that guy live that it got discolored so quickly? could be wrong, but i doubt that is normal or he had it for much longer.
and what is the discoloration? i would say it could be fumes, but the whole thing looks rusty...not just the tip.

You guys think it can be cleaned up a little? I at least wanna clean the tip, and see if I can clean and treat the rest with something to keep it from rusting.
About the rusting though. I thought stainless wasn't supposed to rust, but I have talked to some people that have the TRD exhaust, and they have some rust. Is it just the tip that's stainless?

Other people with TRDs have claimed that their exhaust have rust on them too. One guy's rusted so bad that his resonator split. Perhaps they say they are made of stainless but really aren't? Anyone out there that has a TRD exhaust and no rust on it?

I dunno, I had a TSRM for a year and it still looked like new, except for some water spots and dirt, but other than that it looked like the day that I opened the box. Maybe that's why the TSRM is worth $550+ new. You can ask Subarashi how "like-new" the exhaust that I sold him is

That's why I wondered if the TRD exhaust was really made of 304 stainless or not, because a while ago on new celica, people were complaining that their TRD exhausts were falling apart, and I was just wondering if anyone on this site has had a problem with their TRD exhaust or not.

I have had the TRD exhaust for about 9 months now. It still looks shiny and brand new, though we have some rough weather conditions over here.

Stainless steel is rust and corrosion resistant, not proof. It's kinda like the false conception of a bullet proof vest. Neither are proof. Proof means absoultely 0% chance. Resistant means a high tolerance to, but not proof. Also, the corrosion can be caused by iron being deposited from other sources. Not technically rust, but I think they can corrode. Also, he hasn't sent more pics yet, but I will post them as soon as he does.

This is why I'd never buy a car from new york. The salt problem with cars there is so bad.

Looks like salt to me too. I live by the ocean and you really need to take care of stuff or it looks like that. My rotors are startin to corrode. But I dunno, if he didn't protect it I'm not sure I'd buy it. I like to know my stuff has been well maintained and taken care of. It's prolly ok but make sure you get some kind of return option on it.

just check the weld seems on the muffler itself, plus the two where the pipes go into the pan,get a new gasket for the back piece, and buy it cheap! it can be cleaned up just take it to a machine shop and tell them to polish it and even if the welds are loosening they can do some minor welding.it is not that bad that it cant be salvaged and be brought back like almost new! go for it but do the check first.
