Ok, I don't see a real need for the AEM big brake (rotor) kit. But I have 8mm of brake pad left and am planning for new pads. What brand brake pads do you suggest (winter & rainy climate, mainly highway miles) and what is teh estimated cost.

Go to tirerack.com and get EBC green stuff pades.

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.js...tuff+brake+pads [tirerack.com]

$79 for front, $69 for rear (GTS)

Better than TRD pads, little brake dust, and they stop HARD.

I can actually activation my ABS on dry pavement under a hard stop, thats how good they grip.

generally speaking, TRD stuff is waaaay overpriced. $119 per axle is insane, plus the coefficient of friction is lower

if you want cheap, and you don't care about performance, tirerack.com also sells oem style ones that are cheap!

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.js...erform+OEM+Pads [tirerack.com]

However, brake pads are the one part of the car that I would suggest you spend money on to get premium goods. The EBC greenstuff pads are twice the price of the OEM style ones, but you will notice the difference.

And another thing, if your rotors look rusty or worn, you can replace them at tirerack.com also very cheaply, I got 4 Brembo OEM style replacement rotors, 2 axel sets of EBC green stuff pads shipped to my door for about $260 plus $90 at a local brake place for the install.

Link to the brembo oem rotors:

http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/brakes.js...placement+Rotor [tirerack.com]

If you are going to pay to replace the pads, you might as well get it all done at once. The Brembo rotors are $22 each for front, $18 each for rear. You will not find a better price than that ANYWHERE.

If you plan to do this yourself, I'd suggest getting new rotors, since it will only take you about an extra 5 minutes total to install them. thumbsup

The greens sound like good ones. I'm not trying to be cheap, I'm just not enough of a user to add overpriced mods to my car (yet). I don't have ABS (oops, my order mistake) but what would be the benefit of getting new brake rotors? mine do rust up quite a lot as it is quite wet/humid here in the midwest.

well, new rotors can replace rusted, warped ones.

However, if your brake place will resurface your rotors for you for cheap, get them to do it.

I couldn't pass up the $22/$18 price for new, shinny rotors. Plus, I was paying labor to install the pads, so it was cheaper.

If the rotors were like $90-100 I'd question it, but for under $100 for all 4, it's a worthwhile replacement.

mine aren't warped, less than 18k miles. Though for brakepad wear, I had 8mm at my 15000mile service. How much longer will these last?

depends on your driving style.

at 18K, your rotors should be fine.

Mine had 55K, had been resurfaced twice, they were pretty well shot.

There is a warning indicator that will start to go "bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz" if your pads are too low, but this wears down the rotors.

To be on the safe side, get the, replaced with your next service interval.

As for driving style I guess I'm a guy who uses all but 8mm of pad by 15k miles. lol

What is the OEM thickness of the factopry pads? 10mm?

Would better pads eat away stock rotors quicker? I was always under that assumption with my aggressive driving habits so I never got any (don't need to replace my rotors more than I need to). Only choice for me would be a big brake upgrade. That's the way to go for looks and performance on 17" or higher wheels. Not that expensive compared to AEM unless U get TRD or something crazy. Never get a front and rear upgrade unless U do SERIOUS driving.
