My transmission is starting to grind when i shift fast into thrid gear and thrid gear only i was wondering wether it is the clutch or my tranny. If I shift slowly and carefully it dosent happen. I was wondering if anyone know what the problem is or if anyone else has had the problem I am haveing Thanks.

Redline MT90 transmission oil works wonders for transmission with synchros. It stops grinds and what not. You should try it.

my celica sometimes grinds in reverse (unless i seriously mash the clutch down with lots of force). would this also help?

all you need to do is if the car is put the car in neutral, let the clutch out, clutch in, shift into reverse.

if you start the car, leave the clutch in the entire time, and go into reverse, it grinds sometimes

Muhahaha. I had this problem 1/2 year ago. It's your synchros. I took my celi into the dealer. I got it back in a month. They rebuilt the transmission. THANK God it was under warranty. Phew! thumbsup wave

With my old Prelude I had the same problem and it turned out to be my Syncro mesh. Wear and tear , mostly from power shifting (Young lil punk at the time). Had to bring it in a have it refurbished. Only to fry my clutch 6months down the road. As for the reverse grinding. Try putting the gear into 1st and then go reverse . Not sure why this works but ever car I drive except the euro cars I go 1st to reverse and never grind. Volks doesn't work this way because of reverses location. left of 1st gear and you have to push down. Hopes this helps wave

my transmission is doing the same thing right now...except it does it when i down shift into third gear also...i just got it back 3 weeks ago...the dealer re-built my transmission...and it started happening again...so the dealer is going to give me a new transmission...they are on back order for 3-4 weeks so i have to wait until the end of january.

People use the term "double clutch" way too loosely.

Pumping the clutch twice then putting it into reverse is not the same as double clutching. They're totally different.

i had that problem when i downshifted to 4th. Took it in to toyota, took them like a month and a half to fix the thing and then i couldn't get it out of 6th... They fixed it and it has been fine for like 4 months and now i'm starting to grind when shifting into 3rd. It dosen't do this all the time yet, but i have a feeling i'm gonna have to take it in. I know a dealership that will just a put a new transmission in instead of fix it, but i think it will be an 03 transmission. Guess that would mean the end of myt TRD SS. I've got to find my stock shifter... Can i demand a direct 00 transmission replacement?? I heard the 02-03 transmissions suck.
