I think that I've decided to put in a new head unit for my 03 GTS. Does anyone have any suggestions for what the best Rockford headunit would be for a basic system with 1 amp powering 2 subs? Don't need anything elaborate like XM radio... just a cool looking face and good sound.

I'd be running the Rockford head unit up front, with two 10" HE2 subs in back with the 701S amp... then probably replacing my front speakers with new JBL component sets. Sound good, or am I missing something?

do you want the color to match your interior? if so, what color?

Actually my interior is all black... I'd like to match either red (paint color) or the orange LED color of our stock dash instruments.

I actually have the 1 farad cap already...

The reason I was looking at RF head units was because I'm trying to stick to one or two brands for my entire system. I have all the stock JBL stuff still in place, but have also had the amp/sub/cap setup for quite some time already. I'm just not getting enough out of it now though, either in terms of punch or sound quality. I figured the next step up would be a head unit, but I don't think JBL makes aftermarket units...

Would the tweeters with the 6 1/2 inch RF components actually fit into the stock hole? That would be pretty awesome.

alright, theres the RFX9220 for $220, which looks pretty good, if you look at the stats compared to the rest of them in the line, and it looks like it goes the best with the interior you were describing. It looks like a good unit and i'd probably be happy with it. thumbsup

ill take a look tomorow at work if they fit perfect. it seems like it will be a close fit. also if you do add a head unit im pretty sure youll need a re wire donee because of the stock amplified system. if you do that it would just be best to upgrade the speakers as well. but tomorrow ill check to see if they fit 100% perfect.

the speakers will fit good the tweaters will fit pretty good, you or the installer would need to do a little bending of the stock metal piece. other than that thumbsup thumbsup!!

Hey man, I just got a new head unit for my 02 GTS, rockford is nice, but I'd def. go with ecplise, I know you want to only stay with a few brands and all, but eclipse gives really high end sound quality and since you have such sound quality preserving amps (JL's right?) it would really be nice. Plus eclipse anti-theft is like friggin federal protection (ok so not really but it is intense) I got the CD8443, just a suggestion.

yeah they aren't detachable. I guess they took a survey and most people don't use it anyway, or they leave it in their car. I didn't want it to begin with. They have a pimp security system, when you get it you put in a CD and it reads it and establishes that as your key. After the stereo has been removed from battery power it won't work until you load that CD. It displays call 1800(whatever) and they offer to fix it and stuff, but really it's their security service and they shit it back to you. It's a sweet set up. I bought it at tweeter, cause I didn't really trust online for it.

Hey man, thanks for checking out the fit on the speakers and tweeters. Now that I know it shouldn't be a pain to install I'm going to get on it.

As for the Eclipse suggestion, it does sound tempting... I almost bought Eclipse subs when I put in my system, but didn't have THAT much $ to throw around. 10Celi, you work at a stereo shop I assume... would you say there is very much difference between quality on the Rockford heads compared to the Eclipse unit?

Thanks a lot everyone.

Fosgate under rates all their products. i havent had much use with the fosgate decks. from what ive seen they are very easy to use not to expensive and have great functionality. i think it would be a great way to go if you chose a rf deck. as for eclipse, it is one of the best brands out there for stereos. they are very comperable to rf but id still choose rf because i like detatching my faceplate. study shows my cars been broken into twice and i didnt have a detatchable face. i learned my lesson...thats one reason although that eclipse thing..still wouldnt trust it. both will be fantastic decks...if you choose eclipse your trying to build a phonominal system as where you could do so in a fosgate but not spending as much cash and having a detatch face..anyway both are fantastic but I wouldnt spend the extra cash on the eclipse unless your going comp.
