Just some weird things I noticed after driving in LilTig's GTS (both 6 spds)

She has intake/exhaust and yet my car is louder than hers (mine is stock intake/exhaust)

Also, my lift engages around 5400 RPM and is very smooth all the way to 8350 RPM, her's engages at 6K and is a kick in the pants. However, mine is faster confused

Just wondering if anyone knows why this could be. I looked around, and couldn't find anything. My car was built in 04/00

mines an 00 (like I said) and hers is an 03.

mine has like a little pull at 5K, then it pulls harder at 6K all the way past redline.

^^yeah, mines the same.

i don't know how much faster mine would be against one of the new gts' though..theres a lack of celicas here (not that i'm complaining) and the gts models are even rarer. there are only 2 other celica gts' in my area and both are driven by people (do they just happen to be girls??) who could care less about peformance in my opinion.

Is yours pre- 05/00 production?

I think they may have made some minor changes to the engine the same time they did the transmission because people weer blowing the engine back then with over revs from miss shifts.

May 2000 (05/00)

That's when they made the change from the tight shift gates to the newer, wider gates. It says the production date on the driver side door frame.

I didn't think they changed the Gates until May/June 2001. Not in 2000.

That is why For the 01 you have to give you VIN number when ordering a short shifter.

they made updates to the transmission and internal transaxel components in 2001, but I read somewhere (trying to find it) about the changes made in 05/00

# TC001-00 JUN 00 M/T, 6 Speed, Shift Spring - Update

That one is what I was referring to.

Does your car have the updated transaxel parts? Mine just got finished having that done under warranty, and it is driving a lot nicer. I have a TRD SS sitting in a box I can't use though. I'll have to tear both of the units apart and change the rods frown

well, if you ever break your shift linkage Jamey, you are going to be shit out of luck, because toyota no longer manufactures the linkages from the 00-01 cars, they only make the linkage for the newer tranny.

If you put the new linkage on the older selector, it just breaks after about 1500 miles average use because the tighter gates put A LOT of stress on the cables.

I hope yours never break, the older tranny is better frown

the new gates make the car easier to drive.

Btw, the grinding you have isn't from the syncros, its from the cables.

I know, you're thinking WTF?! But trust me, my tranny would rind like a byotch. I picked it up from the dealer, and it doesn't grind. It also goes into 1st gear between 10-12 MPH...used to not go into first gear unless I was at a COMPLETE stop.

Did you have a short shifter when you took yours in?

no, I had the TRD one and I took it out and replaced it with the stock one because my dealer would void my entire car for a single mod. But, I know that it's not the SS that breaks the cables tongue

Well, my dealer is a notorious pain in the ass. If yours is cool, maybe not. But, I'd take it out just to be safe, because they could claim your SS "broke" your tranny, and not cover it under warranty
