Now i know this is possible, but not too many celica's i've spoken to have gone through a full engine balancing, making the red line kick in about 9 ish and lift engaging the whole time (maybe flash the ecu to remove limiter)...does this sound at all possible?

yea the 2nd cam (lift) probably won't produce much power at lower rpm. Didn't monkeywrench tuning realize this when they dynoed each cam or something, like the lift point is perfectly placed to get the most hp out of each cam?

yea. you should balance your engine if you're going BIG.

If I remember correctly if he set it right at 6k there was a small gain.

I dont think you can get a gain out of lift just by changing the engagement point. I dont see how you can gain any hp by lowering the lift engagement. All that you'll be able to do is stay in lift easier during shifts.

you would just get more hoespower at 6K rpm, not more peak HP

ok you have an amount of hp at every single rpm. for instance you may only have 100 horspower at 4000 rpm (this is not accurate or trying to be)or 150 at 6000 rpm, if lift is engaged sooner, there for useing bigger cams (or at least lobes) you can get mor air and uel in therefor more hp at 6k. your peak hp will remain 180(claimed at the crank)

this is in theory of coarse

no, you don't understand my friend.

you see, in "lift", you have little "pins" that are forced under the followers on the high-cam, ergo, lift only works on the "high-cam" it won't work on the low cam, because the lift mechanism cannot affect the low cam... at all!

this is why we need cams. people are working on special grinds now as I type this.

ok, when you hit lift, you can feel a little more pick up right? well if it happened to soon the cams wouldn't be positioned right to get enough power, but if it happened a little sooner, wouldn't the pick up sooner be good

i think its possible for the 2zzge to be balanced and made to spin 9k rpm,but a lot of shit has to be changed,like valves.springs,oil pump(stock oil pump is said to be weak and break under preasure),oil cooler(at hi rpm oil will foam)need head work(intake and exhaust ports as well,to help flow the massive amt of hi velocity air at 9k)the 4 age,the motor that the 2zzge is supposed to be replacing can spin 9k with little work so i cant see why the 2zz should not be able to do so!i dont think the stock ecu can provide the fuel and timing etc. for that hi an rpm though!might have to go stand alone.
btw.i have a gen 6 accel dfi racing series fuel management system for sale(used it on a celica with gnx motor)mint!

I was just makin a dumb hypothesis about the lift, when i think about it now, i do remember reading about the different cam profiles and everything...but where i was going with balancing the engine and raising the redline is: IF i could fit a big ass turbo that spools up completely at around 4k RPM, i could still use the car as a daily driver shifting at ~3k, but when i wanted to, i could gun, the turbo kicking in at 4k and not dropping off till around redline..you could have massive amounts of power out of the engine if they have turboes like that that would fit...
