SECURITY GT (VVT-i) GTS (VVTL-i)
Remote Alarm With Perimeter and
Microwave Interior Protection Optional Standard

Remote Key Engine Immobilizer Optional Standard

i think all my gts came with was remote keyless entry...no real security...so maybe my real question is what is perimeter and microwave interior protection? and how do i know if i have it...?

i have an '00 gts and all i can say about the factory alarm is that it sucks--really. (although that link is for the '02 model...not sure if its the same or not)

basically you would have to roll my car over to set my alarm off. although it does go off if you enter or supposedly break the glass. but that is the first i've seen about "perimeter protection"

i understood "perimeter protection" to be very expensive...such as when sometimes you walk close to a lamborghini (about 3 inches) and it tells you to back off. in any case..the celica does not have this so they are either using the term to mean something else...or i have my terms mixed up.

the perimeter sensor you are referring to is like the proximity sensor. it emits a field around the car and sets off a warning if someone gets too close. if they get closer than that then the alarm will of off completely. the microwave interior acts kind of the same way. it is usually used in cars that have convertibles. it emits a field inside the car and when there is an opening, like for example some fool decides to cut the convertible to try to get in the car, then the field will naturally become larger thus setting off the alarm. basically, when you set it, it will create a field inside the car, and if some makes a hole, like cutting the convertible or breaking the glass then the alarm will go off.

the proximity or the perimeter sensor is ideal for any car because for example, someone can break your glass and run back to their car and wait for the alarm to go off automatically. then, all they have to do is climb in the window gently and take what they want. with the proximity sensor, they can't climb in the window because the alam will always go off no matter what because you are disturbing the field.

My homie is going to put it on his new '04 Expedition. His other Expo was stolen a couple months back right after I installed a DVD system in it! This thing was decked out-22" Barb rims, lights, tails, new grills, bulbs inside & out,gauges,tint-you name it. It was paid off so he got a hefty check from Allstate. Had a 7" widescreen in-dash TV/DVD/CD touchscreen.

just ask them to explain what those features are to you in detail and then make sure you have those features in your car.

if they explain something you do not have and are supposed to have..then they should be able to fix it for you thumbsup

Leave a window open, activate the system, then get in through the open window. Wiggle around in the seat a bit like you have a nasty itch or something...then see what happens!
Try that

Or leave the window open, close the doors, arm the system, then reach in and unlock the drivers door manually... open the door and it should set off the alarm. Also, when the system is armed, a well placed hit to the mid drivers side of the windshield (not TOO hard! but decent) should set off the alarm as well... activates the glass-break sensor smile
