Its about that time, gotta get a set of new tires. I think I've narrowed it down to the Falken Ziex ZE-512 or the Yokohama AVS ES100. I've read that the tread wear on the falken's (300) are a bit better than the yoko's (280, got these numbers from tiredirect.com) as far as performance is concerned which is the better.
-Thanks

Go with the yoks because it has a better threadwear rating. The smaller the threadwear number, the stickier the tire. So smaller is better in terms of performance! But tire longetivity is opposite. The larger the number the longer the tire will last. It's a kind of a weird logic but it works.

Everyone that has reviewed the yoko's have said that they are a great handling tire but the tread life on them absolutely sucks. As for the Falken's, they perform well and road noise is minimal, and the tread life is supposed to be much longer. Are the performance of both tires that much different?

Get the falken ze ziex 512's because they're what you're looking for. I have them on my stock GTS 16's right now and they're great. In my community, we don't get ANY snow and very little rain. I have not had any incidents of hydroplaning and the road noise is very minimul. They also have a lip so that it protects the rim if you hit a curb or pothole. It's a great tire for the $$$.

my 0.02
AVS ES100 > Kumho Escta Supra 712
just made the switch and the Yoko's grab much harder in turns, great traction and handling...
however, if you need all-season, consumer reports rates the Falken Ziex as the #1 all-season performance tire, showing above average and great ratings in rain and hydrolplaning etc...
