I'm buying a TRD exhaust (used) this Saturday, and to not void my warranty on my car, I was going to get it installed by my dealership. Will the fact that it's been used or I don't have the original box make it so that the dealer will void my warranty despite the fact that it's a genuine TRD part and that I have the certificate?

Ahh... It will not void the car's warranty, but it may void the exhaust warranty, unless the shop installs it. if you install it yourself, they may dispute the exhaust warranty. it's typical toyota BS. Read those papers you signed when you bought the car.

Most toyota service people will be cool with it if it's a TRD, but if the unit goes, they may have you spring for the expense because it was an "Aftermarket part" so they'll replace it with a factory exhaust (covered under warranty). You gotta pay for a new TRD exhaust if you want TRD again.

However, if you have the shop do the install, the TRD unit is covered under the factory exhaust warranty, and if it goes, it is replaced under the exhaust warranty with a new TRD cat back, instead of a factory unit; which is a good thing, considering the # of TRD problems reported lately (apparently, the mufflers and welds are blowing out on a lot of them)

In general, most dealerships don't care what exhaust you have, so long as it's installed properly. but unless the dealer installs the TRD part from the get-go, they won't replace it with anything but a factory exhaust.

The lesson here: Buy a good, all-stainless exhaust instead. TRD is nice, but only the tip is stainless. the rest is all mild steel. this is to keep the weight down (stainless is heavier).

TRD lists the exhaust as 308 stainless... confused

BTW, the problems aren't widespread, just a handful of cases...no need to make people think the exhausts are all crap thumbsup
