The verdict is in...turns out that %$#!ing rock from yesterday broke my 02 sensor. $150 part from the local dealership. I consider myself lucky the damage wasn't worse than that I guess. The mechanic said I can drive around with the broken sensor until the part comes in. Life is good.

That's good news. A rock hit my radiator when i was doing about 70 on the Florida Turnpike but there was no major damage. Just some dents on the radiator.

I don't think my own stupidity is covered under their warranty. I saw the rock, thought I could clear it..that's what I get for wishful thinking I guess. Was more convenient, quicker but more expensive to take it to my local mechanic instead of haggling over the warranty at the dealership. Cost of my stupidity? About $230 and 2 days of worrying about my baby.

Anyone else notice this sensor under their Celica and think it's not in the best spot to avoid getting mangled by road debris?

you should've called the toyota dealer to ask them if it would be under warranty.
you don't have to tell them you tried to go over a rock, just tell them a rock got kicked up in there while you were driving and your cel came on.

sorry that anything was wrong to begin with...but still $150 is not bad at all for repairs. it could have been much, much worse. thumbsup
