i was driving home about 20 miles away when i felt a rough clutch pedal. It was as if the motor could be felt though the pedal. I persited to drive home, which it ran but makes a very grinding, or clunking sound between gears and rpm changes, and also when the motor is started in neutral with the clutch not engaged. I am about to deliever it to the dealer, i have 2500 factory warrenteed miles and about 70,000 aftermarket warranty miles left. What can the tell me, or rip me off, the car has been owned by me for less than 3 months, a different dealer told me that a new clutch was installed prior to me buying it, like 500 miles prior, because a tranny syncho was replaced. What can this problem be, will they cover it on either warrenty? thanks guys, i need your help!!!
hey...got your pm. i really dont know wut to tell you. you have the 6 spd GTS right? so have you tried changing the gear oil in the transmission? I not sure if this is your problem but I would give it a shot...I changed mines about 2 months ago when my gears seemed a bit "sticky" and now it shifts smooth as butter and if you are gonna do this use the redline MT90 which is made for trannys with synchros. hopes that helps...i'll try to find out other possible solutions and post them for you as I find them...good luck!
My tranny and clutch are in rough shape, kind of souds like your problem. I had also thought it might be a lubrication issue for the tranny. I'm hoping for the best. I would have gotten the tranny replaced under warranty if they didn't di*k me around like the condensation in my headlights that I brought to them 3-4 times. The clutch is another different issue for me. Maybe someone else out there.
hey thanks everyone, i took it in (towed), came to find out i threw a rod? My best friend missed a 3-4 shift and it turned to a 3-2 shift at 8grand. The service manager told me the computer read 13,500!! They are fixing it but for a one-time favor as my odometer reads 58,000. I guess i am lucky. I wish that this problem wouldnt be as easy to happen, maybe better synchos that dont allow crazy downshifts. I already decided to not yet others enjoy the celica unless they buy their own.
ouch...yeah well obviously downshifting at redline is not a good thing at all.
but for anyone that knows how to drive a standard..downshifting (edit--on accident) is pretty hard to do. a few of us here drive the '00 gts with very narrow shift gates and we have never had a problem shifting (and i learned how to drive a standard on my car..never drove one before). tell your friend to stay away from your celica.
