ok, this might be a stupid question/topic. i know ive read on previous threads that it isnt possible to twin turbo a four cylinder engine (i dont remember why exactly, but i think it had something to do with the orientation, such as compared to a v6, which has two separate exhaust manifolds, therefore two turbos can be situated). but, there are inline six cylinder engines that are twin turbo'd (ie. skyline gtr). so is it really the number of cylinders, or because of the lack of space that fours cant be twin'd?

one contributing factor is that TT's are basically used for this reason...the first turbo is small and spools up so that there isn't any lag from the time you press the gas until the time the big turbo spools up. They are made like this because the bigger turbo wont spool up till a much higher RPM...the idea is that you are eliminating turbo lag.
A four cyl. engine cannot handle as much boost as a 6 cyl and therefore does not need a TT. A single turbo that spools throughout the entire powerband is capable of producing more than enough boost to blow the engine. For this reason we dont need TT's.

i don't think there would be enough exhaust gas pressure to spool 2 turbo's simultaneously anyway(for the celica).
