the needle goes red when it's above normal to indicate the temperature is too hot.

that would make sense, but then why is the needle still so close to C (cold) shouldnt it be closer to hot?

well, on the 03' gauges (changes from leaf gauge style to block) the needle might be red when it's not "optimal" in the middle, warning you NOT to rev the engine and let it warm up.

be glad you haven't. My car was low on coolant (thanks, JiffyLube!) and it went up to the TOP level on the gauge, and it was red. eek

I THOUGHT they would do a decent job since I needed the gearbox oil changed (I do engine oil myself, but the tranny was too much work)

they checked my coolant, said it was good, it was EMPTY in the tank.

Lame. Never been back there since. thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown thumbsdown

I kinda doubt that it could get red unless they redesigned the circuitboard. The 00-02 ones don't have any multicolor led's and that's what would be needed unless they do some sort of trick w/the lcd.

but yeah.. you should be able to replace the led's under there... 13 are needed

it's not the screen, it's the led's behind it that determine it's color.
read that install guide that dooly wrote and it explains how to do it.

I can get you people led's, but the wait time is ~ 2 weeks because I just ran out, and will be ordering more as soon as my next batch of gauge faces goes into production.

any place that fixes vcr's should be able to do it.

mileage is recorded on some chip on the circuitboard, so it will stay unless they've never used a soldering iron in their lives

Think you can get some LED's? What's the price also?

Just search ebay for "surface led" plenty of results with good prices.

In the case that you've missed them, in the "Installs" section of this web site, there are about three detailed how-tos under "Interior" for this project, complete with a source for leds.

I sell led's in blue or white for $35 or red for $15 w/purchase of a gauge face.

I can sell them seperately, but the price is a little more.
