I'm interested in adding a sound system to my ride. I want an affordable system with good bass and clarity. What do you guys recommend as a setup? Brand & price will help a lot. Will an amp and two subs;10's sound good or do I need speakers too?

i have the same problem...
i dont know that much about sound systems and speakers, amps etc. all i know is that my cousins 2 12" JL audio W7s are crazy. but money is really a problem so i need a very cheap but good setup also.

good bass and clearity huh? well i did some of researchin and i think the Infinity Perfect 12.1 sub is good for clearity and has good bass. use ebay because there is no way in hell im paying retail for the stuff i want.

well if your really concerned about money, you just knocked JL off your list. Gotta be willing to pay the big bucks. i dont know much about other affordable audio places. but i do know that they do exist.

but also, if it were me, i'd just save up for JL. Think about it, you want the best of the best mods for your car. You wanna save and not be this cheap mod cause you know the great stuff costs. Well JL is the great stuff, i'd save money and piece it together. It will be worth it in the end.

i have 2 12" mtx thunder 8000's and a rockford power amp i think it's 500 watts. i love it.. the mtx's you can find online cheap. and the amp i paid like 300 for. my head unit my friend gave me when he got his tv, but i just got my gf a pioneer 3500 for like 170. figure if you price it all together :
speakers : 200 (i found them cheaper)
amp: 300
head unit: 200 i didn't do anything to my interiors yet.. but it sounds great.

Well, first off, you said that you want bass and clarity, so yeah you should go ahead and just buy all new speakers, thats what i did and im happy because i have both bass and clarity,
My setup: I bought i Kicker 750W Amp, and two 10's, (bought one later for a little more bass, had one only at first), custom box, and i have and kenwood dash, and got rid of my stock speakers and put in 4 infinitys and tweeters. The clarity id awesome and whenver i want bass, yeah i got that too, all in all, i paid al $1,5k...

I have a sony Xplod head unit, will that effect sound at all? In other words, can I use different brand subs, speakers, and an amp to go with my xplod head unit? BTW, 12's are a better choice, right?

I don't think mixing brands should be a problem. I've haven't heard of too many people using all 1 brand for their whole sound system; usually it's all different. thumbsup

I have posted this in many other places. Read, read, read, goto dercware [decware.com] and read. The man knows his stuff. He is a believer that bigger is not always better. He loves clear sound and tells you how to do it. Then YOU can figure out what brands to buy. My 2 cents
