I have a sub set up just like this one. Would the subs postion as they are have a risk of breaking the rear window, at full power. If Yes then would i reduce my chances by laying them down, and facing them towards the rear seats. (by the way i have 2 800 watt, 15" subs with a 1500 watt amp)
nate says: You shouldn't have to worry about blowing out a window and pointing them in different directions wont change it..it's all sound pressure!
he is right, bass frequencies are non-directional, and the direction of the woofer will not affect the level of the sound being produced. the only way you will break the window is either spl's of around 160 or above, or if you mount it so clost to the window that the excursion of the woofer will make the cone hit the window, but then that would not break the window, that would just cause distortion is the bass
My brother has installed systems as large as 15k watts, which is about 100x larger than that and just as close to glass and has never heard of glass breaking. think about it, that glass is at least a 1/4in. thick, and at a strength of 200+ pounds pre sq. inch its gonna take a lot more than 2 12" WalMart specials to break that.
Ill show you a picture of my subs when i get a camara. I had to pull all the trunk plasic out so they would fit with the box i had. They are really heavy so if to steal them you would have to have a rachet set and two people to get them out. i have them bolted down to the floor. And about the Towel, i just use the carpet i pulled up, i lay that over the top and that looks "stock."
