I was going to remove the valve cover on my car to replace the lift bolts, and after checking a toyota techincal service bullitin I noticed they included a sealant which was to be used when reattching valve cover. Is this necessary? are the gaskets on the gts valve covers rubber?
Ive checked other threads where lift bolt is discussed and no one mentions doing this, but I wanted to be sure.

Yes you do need some silicone. It goes in the corners of the valve cover. When you remove it, you will also need to get rid of the excess silicone that is on the block to reveal a smooth surface. Then apply the new silicone.

Then apply the new silicone. The FIPG Sealant is about $11 and the hole tube should last you along time for many lift bolt changes. The FIPG Sealant is great stuff.
