I have a 2003 Celica GT 5 speed, i was wondering if one of those Apexi Boost-controllers they sell right off this site would do me any good. I dont know a whole lot about boost. How would it effect engine life/fuel economy/ etc. (anything else it would effect???

Dude... you need a turbo in order to use a boost controller. Without a turbo you have a $300+ air gauge which has no function at all because the readings do not mean jack, also the boost level displayed will always be in the negative side of the boost gauge on this boost controller. Might as well get an Air/Fuel mixture gauge with the flashing lights atleast thats something functional.
Don't mean to sound harsh but this is way noobie question.

mike lu is it???? well i used to own a 89 civic with a b16 V-TEC if you know anything about that. and i had a boost controller for the v-tec so i could set the v-tec at whatever RPM i wanted it to kick on, i wasnt sure if it was the same with the VVT-I .. thanks a lot for bieng friendly! hey ur number one

boost controller for the V-Tec? V-Tec is not turbo how can you use boost controller for V-Tec? It does not even have a wastgate to hook up to!! Do not BS dude, boost controller without a turbo its just flashing lights.
Boost controller is basically a electronic gear with tubes that will allow you to release some of the gas that goes to the wastgate (controls amount of psi), by releasing the gas before reaching wastgate it think the turbo has not spooled up to its proper psi when infact it has already gone past the wastgate set psi. There is absolutely nothing else in a boost controller other than that.
The only thing that can control Valve timing is PowerFC you can buy a boost controller as an option to link up to PowerFC however thats not what you are talking about. PowerFC is a full ECU replacement where you can program fuel map and set the V-Tech engagement. And that sucker is not cheap. Just an example one that works for Celica is over $1400 which comes with a commander (keypad that programs PowerFC)

BTW vvt-i doesnt have lift as you assume only vvtl-i does its like v-tec but way better and more advanced

The Guy is Talking About A V-TEC Controller... i understand what he means but that has nothing to do with boost... *sigh* i hope you did atleast an engine swap cause no 89 civic i ever heard of has a V-Tec then again i might be wrong ethier way i dont give a Sh*t about Hondas... and for sure Mike doesnt mean to come off like a bad guy... he was probably angry or frustrated that day to handle/see such a n00b question... for the record i have asked this question rofl

I don't mean to be mean, but when he posted this it sounded like he is for sure it works with our cars. He even started a poll about the controller, all he is not sure of if it is bad or good for our engine.
V-AFC is a air/fuel controller that will adjust along with the V-TEC adjustments, fine tune the air/fuel mixture on Honda V-Tec motors.
V-Tec controller is probably just like PowerFC which can adjust V-Tec engagement (on a GTS for PowerFC it would be for Lift engagement), but I am not going to pretend I am a specialist on something I am not familiar with.

hahaha wonder which 2 person voted boost controller is good for a Variable Valve engine.
I know I posted the explaination why it does not work someone still voted good, comeon fess up. hahaha
