I have a GT and I need some speed. It is slow off the jump of course, but I need some advice on what to get. I need exhaust, but everyone in town says they can't bolt any muffler on the brackets and I would have to get a whole new cat-back or the trd sport. If anyone has some advice please help!!!!

sell it and buy something faster.

GT auto can't and never will be fast, unless you dump A LOT of money into it.

Hence, buy a faster car.

don't feel bad dude i got an auto. one mod i found that worked well with throttle response was the AEM pulley. of course just the pulley alone won't do much and you would have to invest on i/h/e. but if you want "uber"-speed then you will have to look at forced induction (or/i.e. turbo/N2O/s/c). from experience bolt ons do not add as much to an auto as it would a manual but they do help and my car really is a lot more peppy especially in mid-high end grin

Do you know any website or place I can get the AEM pulley for a good reasonable price? I heard the K&N FIPK system was good, but I haven't heard anybody say anything about AEM. Which would be better?

AEM isn't going to give you a noticable increase in power because it only under drives your alternator. If you want a good HP gain from a pully, you should get a crank pully that slows all accessories down.

I would reccomend looking into the UR crank pully (unorthodox racing).

Natnan...do some reasearch before you purchase crank pulleys like UR. there have been a few cases where there have been engine troubles due to this mod (look then up at new celica.org or search thourgh mod section at ecelica.com). the AEM pulley is safe because it does not require removing the harmonic balancer...yes UR will give you more power but there is a reason why i didn't get it. you can try it out, many people have it and they experience no problems buti don't feel like playing russian roulletle with my car.

one word for GT performance... Supercharger!

TRD is putting the kit together as we speak, the lower compression of the 1zz will allow for ample boost levels.

Yeah a supercharger would be nice, but I don't have 3 grand off hand!!! They are expensive and a lot of people I talk to say they don't make that much of a difference. I wish I had a standard transmission to mess with. I should of just gotten the gts. I don't know anything about the pulley's, but I can research them. Would throttle body help me at all of the line?

hm...as all you guys say..GT is slow..but what about gts, it's only got 180hp, what can you do about 180hp, i just don't understand you guy's. gt is still a celica, even gts, when you put a S/C or even a turbo, its only have 280-290, never can go over 400+ so i think celica is all about the look. and racing, it's all about the driver. i just hope pple here dun fukin look down gt. that all i have to say, Celica=Celica, no matter what, we will all owned by those new car like 350Z,Supra, NSX, you never can beat'em so... and i going to get a supra, and i got a Celica GT auto now, and i think i will still keep the GT auto, cause i love celica so much. Peace

Does the Mustang V8 = the Mustang V6? Or does the RSX = the RSX Type S? The difference is a matter of seconds in the 1/4. That's car lenghths, and quite a few. And by the way, the last production year for the Supra was in 98 I believe. So I don't think it would be considered a "new car." A fast car...YES. And I have to call bullshit on the fact that you would take a Celica GT auto over a Supra, unless you are clinically insane or a soccer mom.

But anyways, I'd stick with the simple mods such as Intake, Exhaust, and Pullies, etc. I wouldn't waste your money on headers.

Simply put, if you want BIG hp and tq and have an auto GT, you bought the wrong car.

OK everyone has made their point about automatics. If you aren't ready to bag it yet, you want to try to go for mods that don't hurt the low end power you need to get that auto moving. I would suggest pulley's (just the aem alternator one or the full UR set if your brave) a K&N filter, groundwires (some say these help throttle response and low end, some just get brighter lights, but good either way right?),and the lightest wheels you can afford, for a start. None of these give you the high peak hp numbers, but they will help, they won't hurt low end power, and all (except wheels) are pretty cheap. Good luck!
(edit) btw I have a 5sp celica, my auto experience is with other cars so take my opinion for what it's worth!

Which one of these mods would do this? Im not looking for power gains cause im goin to build a show car. I wanna add intake and exhaust maybe headers just for show purposes but not if im goin to lose power. So do you think it was the headers that probably did this? or what?

Yeah it was after the hotshot header was added. Apparently, the person went back to the shop who installed it and they looked it over again and said everything was fine. They didn't notice a loss of hp during daily driving, it was only when they took it to the track. I heard that it has something to do with "too much back pressure." But this is just what I heard, I don't know anything about "back pressure, etc"

Well, I would ask other auto celi owners that also have headers what they think about it. Don't base everything on this one car, I just wanted to give you a heads up.

huh.. headers free up air flow and relieve back pressure. most likely with you have I/E/H you will have lower back pressure and lose low end torque but gain high end.

like I said...I don't know exactly what happened I only heard it had something to do with "back pressure" Now thinking back it could have been either no back pressure of too much...sorry, it happened a while ago. But im not an expert on this stuff...I just wanted to let people know what happened to this person. I didn't know if it was a common problem or not. Im just trying to help

There are turbos available for the the GT. Auto or stick, it doesn't matter, additional HP's are additonal HP's. Don't worry about it being an auto. If you don't want to pay for the turbo, then a CAI and exhaust would give you a nice gain. I have heard several people with Hotshot headers that are having problems.

I heart GT Autos/Manual have most turbos like the dude said above, if you dont care about asthetics save up and buy a turbo...patience is a virtue..regardless what people say, auto is slow no doubt but you add a turbo pushing 7-xx psi ur gonna nottice a differnce, a lot to gain, and do some suspension mods after that, you have a decently fast car, that corners great... fun to drive in my opnion... i like standard too but sometimes its not practical in busy downtown areas, or just plain stop and go driving... my .02 cents... thumbsup thumbsup grin

personally i like the auto if ya are gonna turbo it, a lot easier to put in a tranny cooler than to replace the clutch all the time
