I was wondering does installing a by-pass valve in a cold air intake to prevent hydrolocking cause a loss in horsepower?? or anything to do performance wise??

The bypass valve may cause a slight loss in power due to the interrupted wall section created by the internal shape of the valve. In dyno testing we have found that the power loss is minimal. The bypass valve offers great security against hydro locking the engine in rainy conditions. If maximum power is the requirement, we suggest that the bypass valve be used in the rainy season and when racing use a coupler hose to make a smooth section where the bypass valve goes. consider the loss nothing (and it says it's minimal) when ur engine is prevented from hydrolocking man~

someone said our cars couldn't use the by pass valve for some reason. that was what they heard from aem.

I think the bypass valves work on the 2nd generation AEM CAI only.. not the older AEM one..

someone said our cars couldn't use the by pass valve for some reason. that was what they heard from aem. yeah... they cannot work with First Gen AEM intake because of the way it is bent. 2nd Gen AEM Inake is made for the bypass valve option... ![[Linked Image]](https://celicahobby.com/forums/attach/96340-DSC00025.JPG) the install is pretty simple. just don't use a hack saw like i tried doing to cut the pipe. i jacked it all up. so then i decided to take it to a nearby muffler shop and asked them to cut it for me w/ a power tool and they took like 2 secs and split the pipe for me for free. so that was cool of them. but you want to make sure that you cut out the piece marked by the paper template taht comes w/ the bypass valve, other wise the pipe will not fit right. n e ways it's very simple and probably the best thing you can do to protect ur engine from water ingestion and i also put the injen splash guard around my filter. so hopefully that's gonna help too. good luck w/ every thing and here's one more pic.

they are the exact same, except 2nd Gen has a different placement for the sensor... details, video, dyno.. etc is at the manufacture's website... http://www.aempower.com/default.asp

the one pictured above is 1st gen... (there is no place to install the bypass valve) Check the part number on the box you received... unless you drive through rivers everyday, the bypass valve isn't necessary it only takes one time... and it could just be that single intersection during rush-hour traffic in the rain - where you had come to a stop and now need to accelerate out of  In SoCal - we get 'rivers' after every rain here

I got my bypass valve for only 20 dollars from a friend who got the wrong size. I would have to say it is the least expensive insurance i have ever bought. Highly Recommended!!!
