Hey guys, Ive been thinking of an idea for my car. right now i use the stock head unit and a tape cassette adapter w/ my creative nomad zen mp3 player. here is my idea:

i want to install a small touch screen lcd monitor that will either replace the stock head unit, or a very small lcd screen that will fit in the case thingy next to the cig. lighter. I want this screen to display an audio player. the screen itself will be connected to a small computer mounted in my glove compartment or in the arm rest compartment.

here is the dillema: i dont want to cut any holes in my dash...I want to keep it as stock as possible so i can swap the stock parts back in when it is time to sell the car. the other dillema is money. i dont want to spend a billion dollars making this thing, and i dont want to spend 750 smackers on a flip up lcd headunit.

so, how can i do this? ive seen lcd screens on ebay for around 75-250$. but even after i buy those, how would i hook the mini computer up to the car speakers.

I got to thinking along the same lines about 8 months ago...

I mounted an LCD in my visor, scored a wireless WebTV keyboard(with thumb mouse). Then I built a Micro ATX CPU in a small desktop case and mounted it in the trunk. You need a good inverter of course.
Now I have system that plays DVDs, Games, and has a 1500 MP3 library.

Cost (Canadian aka fake money)
Computer: $250
Keyboard: $35
LCD: $189
Inveter: $55[/color]

Busy working on a glass enclosure in the back to clean it up nicely and fit my subs in.

If you have any questions, glad to help out.

Drive is currently being molded into the trunk. I've test ran it wout any shock absorbing material for about 1000km and have had no problems at all.
To be on the safe side, going to dynamat the crap out of it wink

I will post pics as soon as it looks less out of construction smile

As for the computer parts, they just came from a local shop.If you hunt around around you can find 1.8 Ghz board + chip packages for a solid deal!

you could go to the scrap yard if you wanna run stock and rip out an consoul from another toyota celica, and use that for cutting, then when you wanna sell, take out your modified one, and put the stock one back. With the center consoul you may only require drilling a few holes, or using tape i know kinda getto, but easier then cutting holes and having to fill them
