Yeah i just order my 18 inch Enkei rs6 with Nitto 225/35/18 555 serious. i heard those are kool, but the tires are so thin to avoid scrapping. Does anyone know if the thinnner the tire then the more likely the tire will pop is true or not. I travel on the free way a lot and was curious if it would matter or not. i have 1.5 drop with body kit and do not want to risk anything. but maybe it does not even matter. personal experiences or any comments would help my curious paranoid mind. thanks

I'm not so sure about your tire popping, but you will definetly be feeling the road with tires that thin, i would recommend next time that you try a size 40 instead of 35, there should be no problems with scraping or anything like that, i've heard of a lot bigger tires on celicas. I personally am going with 225/40/18's on about a little over an inch drop. Anyone have any information on rubbing with 40's on a 1.5 drop, correct me on that if i'm wrong. As for popping, as long as the tires are good quality, i think it would be about the same probability of having a larger tire size popping. You should be fine.

You really arn't at any greater risk in terms of the tire blowing out. You are, however, in great risk of bending one of your wheels.

Exactly what i thought about the popping, and good point about the rims there, another reason why i forgot to mention i'm going for the 40 size.

I have the Enkei Rs6 with 225/40s and it is a comfy enough ride . . . no popping or rim bending but I take it slow over treacherous terrain. I have not dropped it yet but am planning a 2.25 front drop with Skunk2 springs.

As mentioned, you have an increased risk of bending a rim. Also, you will notice a rougher ride quality.

Then again, 18's do look good on a celica - it's your call.

with a bigger tire, you have more material between the road and your wheel. there is more there that can absorb the bumps and potholes of the roads.

if you hit a really big pothole...

and you had a 50 or 55 series tire, it would absorb all of the bump and the wheel would be fine. thumbsup

or, if you had a 25 or 30 (lo pro) tire and you hit that same bump, the tire would absorb some of the shock, but the rest would be dispersed onto the wheel, and therfore bend it. thumbsdown
