That's the first I have heard of that tire scraping. Where does he rub? What's the rim offset? Is the rim 17X8 or X7? Is he lowered?

So he must have a unusual offset to have his rims and tires out that far.

Weird. Spacers maybe? It's just that I have never heard of that tire size rubbing, and I want to get the same size, so I just want to be sure there is nothing unusual in his set up.

245's are too big without flaring the fenders I have 225 45 17's and they barely fit.

Sorry, you are confusing me - are they too big, or do they still fit? If they fit without rubbing, then that's OK is it not?

Trogg's friend has 245/40/17's. Joe (Troggs Friend) and i are actually good friends too. He has 17x8 rims and i can't remember his offset. They rubbed because they are to wide of a tire. His tire scaped the innner fender wall. You need a super stiff suspension to pull 245's off.

No spacers or anything. Just a super wide tire.

Would't the fact that he has 17X8 cause a problem too? The rim is wider too. I am buying 17X7.

can someone tell me which tire would be better, i'm getting 18x7.5's and i was thinking either 225/40/18s or 235/40/18s. My car also has an inch drop, could somebody pm me and tell me if the 235's would be ok or should i go with the 225s?

the car that both jamey and nate(trog ) are talking about is joe's celica. He has 17x8 rims with a 35 mm offset. You can fit up to a 235/45/17 tire on a 8 inch wide rim wiht absolutely no probs. the reason he scraped was a combination of a panic stop and a pothole. under normal driving and racing it will not be a issue.

I understand now. The combination of 35 mm offset and 17X8 rim puts his tire close to the fender. Does not give him much room for error.
In my case with 40mm offset and a 17X7 rim I should never have any scraping problems.
Thanks for clearing the issue. I was all concerned.

yes it is. the wheels are 9 inches wide all the way around. 285's buldge a little on my 9" wheel. im thinking of getting a new rear set that are 10"+. some people have 11" wide wheels out back and are running 315s without any fitting problems.
