what do they do? are they worth the money?

i think they are carbon fiber so they are strong but basically i think they are for looks.. thumbsup

hmmmmmm, as for our cars, we dont really drive it like 140 mph - 200 mph insult everyday, this is mainly for downforce for the front end like the purpose for the wings, downforce for the rear - (mainly racing), like trog said, mainly for looks on our cars thumbsup

a little FYI about front bumper Air Splitters... Air dams and splitters have the same basic purpose: to help the car create downforce (or reduce the amount of lift) primarily at the front of the car. Downforce is good because tires have more grip when they have more force pushing down on them. Air dams and splitters force some of the air that would otherwise go under the car to go over the top or around the sides of the car. By doing that they create a lower air pressure under the car which helps to pull the car down. They only have an effect when the car is moving and have more effect as the speed increases. A splitter is basically an air dam with a horizontal lip added to the bottom of it. The splitter can be used to add downforce to the front of a car because there is an area of high-pressure air in front of the car. The high pressure is created when the car is moving because the air is suddenly slowed down when it runs into the front of the car. That area of high-pressure air also forces air through the radiator and allows ram air systems to work. Adding a horizontal lip to the air dam gives the high-pressure air a surface to push down on, creating downforce.

In general, adding an air dam to a production-based car will tend to reduce the total drag and reduce the amount of lift at the front of the car. The reduced drag will increase the top speed and the reduced lift will help the front tires grip better. Adding a splitter lip to an air dam will further reduce the lift at the front of the car without a significant change in drag. Based on the rules you have mentioned, if you were trying to get the most downforce, you would want to make it as close to the ground as possible with the largest possible horizontal lip, and extend it under the car as far as you can. If you can make the ground clearance adjustable, that will give you another option for tuning high-speed handling.

Now that Ive explained a little bit about how air dams and splitters work, you need to consider if adding one to your car will actually make it faster. Since air dams and splitters have an aerodynamic effect, they will effect the high-speed handling much more than the low-speed handling. Since your car is new, you may not know how it handles yet. The thing to keep in mind though, is that adding an air dam or splitter will create more oversteer in high-speed turns. If you currently have understeer thats good, if you already have oversteer thats bad. If you need more understeer in high-speed turns, then you need more downforce at the rear of the car. Running the stock rear wing is usually a good idea, they do make a slight amount of downforce and in some cases actually reduce the total vehicle drag. Since you cant add a different rear wing, you will have to evaluate if adding an air dam will improve your handling or make it worse. Increasing the total downforce on the car is always better, but if adding downforce to one end makes the handling worse, the car may be faster without it. Testing with careful lap-time comparisons should lead you to the best compromise.

For a track like Daytona, adding an air dam or splitter will probably make the car faster by reducing the drag. You will have to test to see how it affects the handling.

I have been interested in the "side splitters" on e-celica. Do they flatted out when you are dirving or will they hold the shape. Someone said awhile back that they "thought" they woud flatten (bend down) while driving so I just wanted to ask. I like the looks of them and I would like to be able to get them here rather than buying the $200+ splitters from APR (not to put down anything from APR - i just don't have the money to buy them!).

notice the angle that they are to be installed and the thickness of the plastic - there is NO WAY that these will bend when they are installed on your car... not even at 200mph wave

IcEd blUe - Im still waiting for you to share whith whom you got your "information" from tongue

because I just don't see what I would do with all these extra packages of screws and brackets that you claim we don't include with these splitters... heck, look at the pictures - thats a lot of hardware and is actually more than whats required to complete the installation - so YOU would have quite a few left-over parts thumbsup

Next time you hear some people talking trash - ask them WHY they do it. I'm sure they will pause while they try to think up some excuse to change the subject thumbsdown

what i'm more worried about is if someone was trying to be an asshole and stomped down on one of them. would they break off pretty easy?

just as if someone had stomped down on the lower front lip of your car, or your exhaust tail pipe or had tossed a tire onto your hood or sat on your side view mirrors or drive into the side of your car or opened their door onto your paneling or dropped eggs onto your paint or filled your key holes with super glue or put spray paint all over your glass and rubber molding or any other malicious thing... To answer your question... it all depends on how strong your bumper is - these use metal pieces to attach, to the likelyness of the actual canard breaking, or the metal breaking, is HIGHLY unlikely... but if you kick your fiberglass bumper, the fiberglass will break - and if you attach something to your fiberglass bumper such as a front grill and then kick that front grill, it may also tear your fiberglass...

I'm no rocket scientist, but if I wanted to destroy something on another persons car, it wouldn't be hard for me to do it... I just make sure to avoid putting my personal property in situations that are just asking for others to come and play grin

like wat isaac said, probably be the front bar itself that cracks. i suppose that some items probably attract a larger amount of A%$es that try to mess up. actually, just last night i was thinking about the APR side mirrors. those things may be strong, but becoz it looks relatively fragile, some $%^**& is sure to try and have a yank at it.

nope... just place the kanards to the side of your car at the correct angle of your bumper - find a location where they will sit flush, mark the location and then do the same on the oposite side and drill. now attach the hardware and you are done wave
