Is it true that a High performance Intake Modulator can give you a 20hp boost?

WTF is an intake modulator? Sounds like the butterfly on the factory intake.

Having a reserve chamber in your intake tube (like the V2 intakes, large chamber with smaller elbot to TB) can help performance a bit by offering a buffer of air, for when you mash the accelerator, that reserve of air rushes down your TB, and it isn't choked by the demand for fresh air (normal intakes, your bottleneck is the filter istelf in this scenario). However, it's only benificial with a performance exhaust installed, and I doubt seriously that it'd give you an extra 20 HP.

Just go with a decent cold air intake, I suggest the Injen or AEM intakes. The filter should be low restriction, funnel-ram type (think aikimoto) I prefer a stainless element to the oiled cotton or foam types.

As for Myself, I've finally selected my intake setup, I will be going with a true-flow intake system for my GTS. It replaces the factory tubing and MAF housing with Mandrel bent aluminum tubing, which goes to the factory airbox. the filter is replaced with a high-flow panel (like the TRD filter). this way, the intake will flow much better, It will meet the demands at lift, and it retains the stock airbox and butterfly, so not only should the temps stay down, but the low-rev loss of torque associated with butterfly removal will not be an issue. add to this the fact that you won't hydrolock the motor, and no CEL coming on, and it's a no-brainer for me. Once I have the exhaust installed, this should make a noticable difference.

It amazes me how many people actually believe those ECU piggybacks work. especially one that would increase 20 HP and cost so little, and of all places it's found on eBay! It kinda makes me sad, sometimes it even keeps me up at night ohboy cry

I bet if you took all the autions on ebay with this lil mod there would be about 3-4 pages. Anyway my fried got it to put in his he he he "Neon" to see if it works. If it does im gonna find the specs on the lil resistor and to get the from Radio shack and sell them. I live in a town were everyone likes to street race or try to anyway. I bet I could make a pretty penny if it works. spineyes

my friend ordered it for his stealth even though i told him not to. he said it didn't work but he wanted to try it on my car so i put it on and all it did was make my idle higher. i took my car for a spin and it was not faster nor could i feel more power. and to boot...my CEL came on and i havd to reset my ECU. so there you have it...first hand it doesn't work on a celica.
