Just wondering if anyone has an opinion or knowledge about using the highest grade of gas in a GT?

Actually I heard that the type of gas that you put into your car doesn't really matter that much unless it specifically states that you do so. I think it was on the discovery channel if I wasn't mistaken but getting any type of gasolene works just as well as any other type. You won't see any visible difference in acceleration or antyhing liek that. But that is just what I saw.

Dealership told me to use the highest grade I could get to help with a sulfur smell from the exhaust that is common with celicas. It has seemed to help. That's the only difference I can tell.

Actually, I had the dealership leave my oil cap off after an oil change last year and sprayed my engine w/ oil. They replaced my MAS and mass airflow meter, but ever since then I CAN tell a difference in acceleration and perf b/t reg and premium. Is this indication of further problems w/ my GT?

The only difference Ive noticed is that my car seems to shift smother. I think thats just a mind thing because I have no idea what gas has to do with shifting. idunnoOther than that I havent noticed a difference.

I think the main reason for wanting to use a higher grade of gas is that the higher the rating the less likely it is to detonate (explode when it's not supposed to) this can sometimes happen in hot conditions when the car is straining, think of the pinging you sometimes hear when you go up a hill. Or if you advance the timing then you will need higher octane. but for the most part you will not need to use a high octane fuel.

what is the GT rated for? 87? 89?

OK, assuming it's 87, you are wasting your money on anything higher. Your car will not benefit or produce more power with higher octane when your engine is stock.

Read up on why it's a waste of money:

Great post Rice, I never knew that. I'm going to mid grade from now on.

yes, if there is a reliable station serving 91, that's all you need.

I run 95 octane gas here.
Not sure what it does performance-wise, not even sure if I can get lower octane gas.
I did use 'Shell Pura' once in my 6th gen celica, which was supposed to be better for my engine and for the environment.
Shit, I am sure my power dropped from the measly 116 hp to below 100 hp, even my girlfriend complained about the thing being slow.
