don't use any type of sand paper

use "Mother's Clay Bar". IT comes with a spray on liquid that allows the clay bar to glide easily over your paint removing contaminants, overspray and other paint defects.

can't you use 600 wet sand paper? I used that on the chips I fixed, and it looks perfect (just using the paper on the paint, that is)

Do this, do NOT sand. When I clay bar, I have to redo a tiny scratch that is on my door because it takes the paint off. DO NOT SAND YOU CAR!!!

Use some rubbing compound, meguiars scratch x, or GS27 to smooth out that touch up.

A word of warning: the paint on our cars is thin, so don't overdo it with the rubbing compound.

I was fixing rock chips in my driver's side fender, near the headlihgt. I fixed the chips with touch-up paint, and used some rubbing compound to smooth it out, it worked okay, but apparently, when the dealership buffed my car before, they overdid it a bit. after I was finished, I had a pale halo around my repair area, this was because I had worn down to the primer!!! same thing, but not as extreme, on my hood, on another chip.

I Primed and resprayed my 1/4 panel and hood around the chips, and wet-sanded to get everything smoothed out, now I have to take my car to the shop next week to get the 1/4 panel and hood resprayed and buffed out professionaly so it'll look like new when it's done.

So, as I said, be careful you don't overdo it, just keep checking your work area periodicaly so you don't wear through the paint. don't sand it unless you know what you're doing.

BTW, a paint blob can't be fixed with a clay bar, sorry. Clay bars are good for removing overspray and metal fragments in the paint, but clay bars are non abrasive, so they won't smooth out the touch-up paint. that's what rubbing compound is for. go with a mildly abrasive compound, like 3M liquid rubbing compound or swirl mark remover. turtle wax rubbing compund will work, but it's more abrasive, so be careful and read the instructions.

Meguiars scratch x is great for that, just don't overdo it.

well, not everything, I am letting the shop repaint my 1/4 panel and hood afterall.

My brother works as an auto body technician, I've learned a lot over the years from him, I may have him do the paintwork on my car, but he lives in wisconsin, and it's about a 1/2 days drive from me to get to his place.

I just try to post as much info as I can, and try to keep it as clear as possible. If I have no Idea as to how to help someone out, I usually won't post.
