I want to install a light under my hood but I don't want it to be on all the time or controlled by a switch. Does anyone know how to make it so it will only come on when I open the hood (like the trunk does or the interior lights do)?

You use a switch that's depressed when the hood is closed. When it is depressed, it is an electrical open. When it is not depressed it is closed. This kind of switch is called "normally closed" or NC-SPST (single pole single throw).

Here's an example of the kind of switch. This is just the first thing I saw on a google search. NC SPST [twinsupply.com]
