I just purchased a 2003 GT (Spectra Blue Mica) yesterday, and I must say I'm amazed by the acceleration and handling of the car.
My very first car was a 1982 Celica and I've also owned a 1980, but wasn't even aware of the drastic style change of the 7th generation til I was looking for a car to replace my 95 Honda Accord which was stolen last week.
I bought a salvaged title 2003 GT with 63,000 miles for 5200...the seller was asking 6500.
My question's about security and some features of the car.
When I bought the car, the seller told me there's a chip in my car key and the car won't start without the specific key.
Is this a standard feature for all 7th Gen Celicas?
Does this mean that thieves can't hotwire the car?
And the what the hell is the small round orange domed cover that's on the dashboard where the front windshield meets the dashboard on the driver's side?

I'm going to just make up a lot of stuff here because I have nothing but guesses but maybe it will kick start something.
If you have a chip in your key it basically means don't lose it because you'll flip when you see what a new one costs. Basically though yes it's an anti theft device. It is not standard for ALL seventh gens, it may be something that came out on that year model though. My 2000 just has a regular key.
As far as hotwiring I can't do it, but if wiring harnesses are anything like anything else, there are ALWAYS bypasses somewhere, but if it takes that much effort for a celica why not take something else right?
Does the little dome flash when your alarm is set? It may be a security light.
