how much horse will this removal of the butterfly valve gain, and is it bad for your engine, because my short ram makes my engine die sometimes on full stops, so i want to try to do this mod instead of my ram intake

VERRRRYY little. maybe 1-2 horsepower. for being free it's a decent mod. makes you car a little (and i mean "little) more responsive and the engine slightly louder. short ram is better and cai even better.

If you already have a short ram intake though, you wouldn't have a butterfly valve

I cleaned my MAF and noticed a little bit better response. Just take it off and use a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol and gently swab the area that the air "hits" there is a small bulb like thingy and if you look up the black plastic shaft you will also see another spot you can clean. Be careful though it would suck to break it. Ps. sorry Im not more familiar with the technical names of the aforementioned items.
