Oh, so THAT's what you meant! wink

I've been using Regular Unleaded, but since I've been questioning that here... I now know I've been a retard & that this "high performance" engine requires Premium, so I will now be using (as much as I hate to) Premium gas for my GTS Engine

My old GT worked fine w/ regular & never required it... but even in the users-guide, it says that the GTS engine requires a minimum of 91 octane.

When I make the switch (just waiting for the rest of this gas to drain), I really wonder if there's going to be any performance difference.

Okay, that's what I wanted to know...

I've been using the Prumium, I know the manual sales a minimum of 91 octane, but I was just curious if others were trying other stuff, because of gas prices.

the ECU of the GTS, as well as the engine, relies on the use of 91 octane. if youre not putting that in, youre not getting the most of your car, not to mention the serious negative effects that will happen to your motor.

the negative effects of not using the recommended octane (91) are:
-engine knocking
-faster decay of your engine
-possibly killing your engine.

i know gas is very expensive, but i dont wanna see a celica die. grin wink thumbsup

Yes, you should definitely be putting premium gas in your GTS, Erin.

Its better to use premium gas and pay a few extra bucks then risk major engine damage, just look at it this way its only like a 10-20 cent difference between 87 and 93 gas so you are only paying like $1.50-$3 more. $3 at the pump vs $5000 for a new motor, which would you risk.

10-20 cent difference between 87 and 93? where do you live?? we have a good 20 cent difference between 87 and 89 here...

and i sweeeeeeeeaaaaaar that "blowing the motor" is a bunch of bs... we've always used 87 in ALL of our cars... and none of them have ever had problems (well up until they hit the 100,000 mile mark... but most cars have problems then anyways) i agree that maybe it's BETTER... but it's not gonna blow your motor...

whats everybody's best millage on a full tank of gas, im currently on 454.7 and still got about 10 miles to go. Just lost my last sliver at about 450 and when that usually happens i got about 20 miles left. My previous record was 450 even.

i (assuming) never said that your engine will blow up. but it will speed up the decay factor that all engines go through.

Maybe the $5000 includes labour?
Maniak, I regularly get just over 400 out of a tank, but I never let the gauge go that low (crud always waits at the bottom of the tank) so you're probably getting about the same mileage as I do.

I just spent 5 minutes doing the freaking conversion from metric to imperial, and Cdn. $ to US $, and came to the conclusion that I'm paying $3.12 US a gallon for 91 Octane (1.03 per litre if anyone wants to check my math). That would be $45 to fill a dead-empty tank. In Maine, the state nearest to me, the price of premium seems to average $2.42/gallon. Yeah, I just love Canadian taxation...if only they spent the fuel taxes on the (*&^%#% roads here life might be better angry. Good thing I can walk to work, there are potholes on the main road that could eat a Celi eek

are you suppose to use 91/93 octane for the GT or is that just the GTS? I religously put 89/91 (whatever the midgrade happens to be) in mine and put 91/93 in for trips. Is it better to run 91/93 (higrade) for the GT or will it put around okay on the midgrade?
