Ok I was just chillin watching StarWars when i thought of this. I know a lot of ppl here in Las Vegas with cool cars and nice stuff under the hood, but nothing in the trunk. And as well lots of people with a really nice trunk but nothing under the hood. Now if your anything like me, as I spent 3K on my amp alone and put very lil into the engine bay so far then this might help.

Also assuming that you have removed the plate in your stock intake that blocks maximum air consumption.

The hypothesis consist of...

Your stock intake (air filter box)

A Home Laundry Dryer hose 5 inches in diameter

A huge drill bit (about 5 inches in diameter

and a few screws and fasteners

My idea is to...

#1 Remove your entire stock intake.

#2 Drill a 5 inch in diameter hole on the bottom half.

#3 Insert hose into whole and snip into hose about 1 inch to creat a bend where you can then screw hose into place. make this snip 4 - 5 times to secure hose into place.

#4 Re-install entire stock intake, with the other end of the hose hanging near the bottom of the engine bay.

#5 Now install that free open end of the hose to your front bumper grill. with the hole facing out.

The point of this is to give you a a lot more cold air comming into your intake. Now if my idea is correct this should give you a lil added power until you can get your hands on a real CAI. I included a drawing but its a lil blurry no scanner and celly cam sucks LOL.

Now my main reason for posting this here is to get some input from the more advanced guys. Main question...

Will this work, and if so can it ruin anything,? since you will be getting a mixture of both warm and cold air mainly just a lot more of it, this may even cause for the warmer air from the engine bay to become coller and denser. anyway any input is welcome i need as much of it as possible before tryen this on my own car since my CIA wont be here for another 2 weeks.

it is quite possible actually. My dad who is an enginner devised a cold air system for his camaro, it used dryer or a/c ducting (not sure) and he mounted it under his front bumper. It drew in a lot of COLD air and he used it with about 664 rwhp till he had a nitrous explosion and bye bye intake. lol. Needless to say it should be good for our 180-200 hp and might be a good investment.

it's easier to make a CAI for most american cars because the maf sensor has it's own little housing you can attach tubing to. on our car the maf housing is built into the air box.. also the stock airbox already gets air from outside the engine bay in the front. it's a smaller opening though. so I guess if you cut a huge hole in the bottom and used heat transfer resistant ducting to move air to the bottom of the stock box and bought a k&N high flow filter you could get some results. In addition to switching out the tube from the throttle body to the air box for something smoother and more free flowing like a few peices of PVC piping you could get something that would work, but would cost more than the 46 dollars shipped for an ebay CAI.
