I WAS WONDERING if it would be possible to hook a cold ait intake to the scoop on the bonnet of a stock celica and would it at all boost performance more than a usual position of an CAI would this hurt performance?
any suggestions/answers would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there is enough room to fit any ducting. The scoop directs are behind the engine, toward the exhaust manifold and the tranny, not to the front. You'd probably cinch the duct after closing the bonnet, chocking your engine. Your most effective bet here is to place a cold air intake or some form of ducting in your front bumper. It would basically do the same thing, but seemingly would be easier.

You'd have to do some mad piping to get that done. And the pipes would be directly over the engine/header so it'll get hot, and it'll be a total waste of time. If you really want to have the most ammount of fresh air you can, get a CAI like AEM or INJEN, and hook some piping up to your front bumper where your foglight is (remove the foglight first, ofcourse) so you can direct air straight to where the filter is. Don't point it straight at the filter tho, 'cause along with air it'll channel water and dirt aswell.

Not much. 2-5 roughly, depending on atmospheric conditions and such.

A friend of a friend of mine has an old LeBaron conv't and he hade his own CAI with a 6in wide heating duct hooked up to his airbox, with a metal funnel hanging under his car at the other end. He said, "Yeah, it may look wierd, but you can't really see it, and it adds like 10 hp at least."

i wouldn't waste your time. i was gonna do the hood ram air but did the front bumper mount instead. i ran flex tubing from the front grill to a connector made for a special intake filter. i didn't see any gains b/c it really didn't force the air like a turbo. search for a post about " cai extension to make forced induction?" you can read more about the diff. post.
