I have a question concerning body kits. I'm very skeptic when it comes to body kit, especially fiber glass. I know it ain't bad, but how many layers should it be to be considered durable, like up there somewhere w/ urethane. And some kits are replica, is it wise to get them? any in depth info on the replica, since i don't know much. please replies if you have any knowledge or ideas about this topic. greatly appreciated.

my 1/2 cent on this topic...
u should not be afraid at all to get a fiberglass body kit. from what i know, they r not going to crack and stuff unless you really want it to crack.. meaning you drive like crap. I would stay away from replicas tho because of there cheapness. proper fitment is not always garenteed, and some grinding and crap would be needed to make it look good. if you like ur car.. don't go cheap.


GT300 body kit on, getting fitted, doing install myself.

i agree with jeremy...stick with either body kits that come with a warrenty like Kaminari or a well-known company for quality.

and where could i get them? so buying off of e-bay and ec.com is out of the question i guess, unless you're buying kaminari eh!?? I heard 4 layers fiber glass is not durable. so is this true? thanks

DO NOT BUY OFF OF EBAY !!!!! people on there are just looking to make a quick buck

as for fiberglass layers, just because fiberglass is thin doesn't mean that it is breakable.

there are lots of grades of fiberglass, different types, some are stronger then others. also the exopy used in fiberglass comes in different grades as well.

know where i can buy a cheap and durable fiber glass or urethane kit? any words on buying it from here, EC.com? and which is wiser, fiberglass or urethane? i know it's depend on me, but what's everyone favorite? and how good is the fitment if i were to buy it on here? does anyone know?? What kit are you looking for - I did a review of 16 different body kits about 2 weeks ago and have a pretty good idea of what fits perfectly and what will require a bit of work

Personal experience:

I have had the R2 Front for about 2 years now and haven't had any problems with it cracking or breaking - because I drive very cautiously while its installed.

I was given the a different bumper to drive around with, and I didn't pay attention to how I drove with it installed - so I ran into curbs, parking bricks and all sorts of stuff... and to say the least, its trashed beyond repairs

moral:
it all depends on how you drive...

for a first-time body kit EVER, I would suggest Kaminari Urethane - its durable like stock and the fitment is very close to perfect - you will be happy! thumbsup

hell, it's expensive grin . almost 2 grand for a kit. dont have that kind of money lying around. what you think about the replica? any good?

Veilside is a HUGE front - and if you are going with a replica of it, I can garentee that they did not use the same high-quality fiberglass that veilside uses - they made the replica to make a quick buck at your exspense.

Basically, if your front bumper is heavy, and you go over bump, it shake the fiberglass and also the metal connectors that your body kit is attached to on your fenders... and if there are ANY flaws in the fiberglass workmanship, it will start to "spider"/crack - and those bumps and the weight will make your new front-end crumble a lot quicker.

I haven't even mentioned fitment of replica bumpers... some companies do a good job on making copies, and then there are some companies who don't care how it fits - just want to make a quick buck by selling a product copy

Example; remember the photocopy/ditto sheets you got in elementary school where it looked like crap, but you could still read what was written... barely... this is basically the same thing with body kit copies - sometimes the person who copies the product doesn't care about the qaulity, they just want it to look the same as the original... and sometimes there are people who take the extra time and effort to produce a nice looking, nice fitting, quality product.

When it comes to a $400 (or more) purchase, buy quality name brand - unless all you are looking to do is just throw away your money - and if thats the case, just put it into an envelope and send it to Santa or Easter Bunny - im sure they could use the extra funds spineyes

fiberglass is a good choice if you are careful when driving.

recently i was at a show and a new company was selling replica fiberglass kits. the fiberglass was very strong...they told me to stand and jump on the thing...it bended like urethane...scary...

ISAAC, so by getting fiberglass, there's no certain that it will be durable. Then if I was to get a 7 layers fiberglass blits kit, it would be the same? or the things you said only applied to REPLICAS. But I really like Veilside but the real Veilside is too expensive. You know any place that sale Veilside Replica that has good fitment and good quality?

well yea, but only the different between fiberglass and urethane kit. didn't specificly stated that 4 layers or 7 layers is better grin . I read through that link very thoroughly, but still those questions popped up. You guys said fiberglass and urethane can be the same, if you're a careful driver. that's doesn't tell much. oh well done w/ fiberglass and this whole ordeal. grin . thanks for all your post.

Blitz urethane was WAY too big for daily driving... on STOCK SUSPENSION EVEN shocked

Blitz fiberglass was much shorter - fitment was good, it just had extra fiberglass that needed to be sanded down (this is much better than having not enough fiberglass)... so for this, I give the Blitz fiberglass a 3 out of 5 (Average)

I got my veilside at www.mvpmotorsports.com, [mvpmotorsports.com,] if you want the veilside I'd save up for the real thing not a replica. It's expensive for a reason and you won't encounter nearly as many problems as you will with a replica, if the veilsides to expensive I'd just look into a cheaper kit

i would have to say that 500 dollars is a very good price for the veilside replica kit... just remember that the price is cheaper for a reason. its not going to be as strong, its not going to be exactly like the veilside kit, and they will be a lot less likely to stand behind there product if something unusually wrong happens. also ur going to have to realize the size of the front bumper and how much it sticks out in the front. if you get it you need to take care of it.. sounds dumb but you will need to watch out.

one thing that you gotta remember is that "you get what you pay for..." im saving up for the real kaminari kit...i have a buddy club kit now...and isaac was right...ive seen a real kam kit and veil kit in person and they fit very good...if they are real...one thing i dont like about the buddy club is that it doest fit real good...so think about it...its worth waitng and saving so that the celi looks good! thumbsup

isaac, im looking at getting a blitz front bumper in urethane, because im worried about fiberglass cracking. is this a good idea? i know you said the urethane is too big for a daily driver, but i dont wanna have to repair a fiberglass bumper all the time..what should i do?

get what you want to get... but I'd sugest 18" wheels if you are going with Blitz Urethane

... Ultimately though, go with Kaminari grin
