I have a 01' gt auto, with an injen long ram cai and a "custom" exhaust, just took off the stock muffler and made a pipe leading to an aftermarket muffler, and i was wondering if its a good idea or a bad idea to cut out my cat and resonator and just have a pipe going from the engine striaght to the muffler
You won't pass emissions, and your CEL will come on if you remove your cat. The resonator is safe to remove, its just louder. Some people say it is too loud and they put it back on. I am going to remove my resonator as soon as I get a high flow cat.
why dont you just get a TRD/kazuma exhaust? if you want loud and high flow, thats the way to go. No cat, no resonator.. loud as hell. and if your wondering if the CEL will go on because of no cat, it wont because the kazuma has a place where you put the O2 sensor.
I am putting a Kazumi exhaust on my 02 gt next week...you can actually order it through the toyota dealer. But you can get it cheaper through wctoyota.it wont pass inspection simply because its a race exhaust.you can go to wctoyota and download a clip of what it sounds like..loud as hell and awesome sound
DONT DO IT!!! trust me. i have trd exhaust and i ran a straight pipe and ive regretted it ever since. it sounded like rice. cmon this is a 1.8 liter here. i put it all back but the muffler shop messed up my o2 sensors in the process. if you do anything, leave the cat on, and take out the resonator.
The parts guy at my dealership assured me that it was a cat-back system. Is he full of crap or what here?!He said it wont hurt my warranties in any way.
